Name a Thai Restaurant Competition!
Our friends at Joe's Kitchen have listen to your comments regarding the name of their restaurant and have decided to change it!
But they are having a difficult time trying to come up with a new name, so they have requested for help from our readers. And to make it worth your while, they will be awarding a Dinner for six at their restaurant to the winner!
So get cracking and do remember to write in with a registered pen name so that we can notify you should you win.
Competition ends next Saturday. The judges decision is final and blah blah blah..... you know all the rest.

it is the quality and taste of the food that draws the crowd and not just a change of name. ate at Joe a couple of times and the food is ok lah, can revisit it.

OK, organizers not supposed to join the competition, but I just have to say that in Sydney a lot of the Thai restaurants have zany names like
Thai foon, Thai rific and Thaitanic!
Hope that the food outlet will not disappear after a change of name, as it can signify a failure under the old name and start all over with the new name.
If you have faith and trust in your business, never change "jiow pai". Can be sueh.

Joe's Kitchen doesn't sound like a Thai restaurant and a lot of people mistake it for some other cuisine.
Have u forgotten the word Thai Cuisine? Anyway, it is not a Thai Restaurant ambience unless you want them to renvoate the whole palce to look Thai. Pls don't impose on the poor couple making a living?
The name is established for a while. Don't make them suffer another 3 yrs. Unless you gurantee the change of name will bring them biusiness.
Hey don't make it sound as if I am arm twisting them to do something. It was their idea to run the competition. I am just helping them to get some names and give our readers a bit of fun.
And please don't make them out to be a "poor couple". They are a young couple with the vision of opening a really great eatery.
My take on this is that you should retain the name "joe" as it is already synonymous to the good value-for-money food that customers can expect from Joe. It's already a rather strong brand and as such need only build the rest of the restaurant's name around it.
Next, I would think that Joe would want to adopt a name that properly identifies his place as one which is informal, quaint and where you can get great value for your buck - something along the line of Crazy Angmo.
Finally need to keep it simple so it can remain on customer's and potential customers' minds.
As such, you can consider:
1. Siam/Siamese Joe
2. Som-tum Joe
3. Thai@Joe's
4. Joe's Thai Kitchen
5. Fabulous Thai@Joe's
after having given it some thought, i concur with anon above.
Keep Joe's name in the eatery's name - the name joe has already been given exposure from this blog, so most readers here are already familiar with Joe to be a Thai guy with an english name, who serves thai food.
I was thinking Joe's Thai Kitchen too.
Other suggestions:
- Joes' Thai cuisine
- Tom Yam Joe
Or some similar combination.
As for anon's comments above at 10:33 at 12/5.. there only 2 guarantees in life - death and taxes. noone can guarantee anyone else's success.

Hmm I posted something but it didn't seem to appear... anyhow here it is again:
Chok Dee - it means "good luck" in Thai and is used as a toast.
Channel u has already given them a mass media publicity, far more impact than any blog can give.
Thet are known as Joe's Kitchen Thai Cuisine to the public and it is a simple friendly name eatery publicized island wide on TV. They should be proud of it and leveraged on this publicity.
Next is to improve on the food to get word of mouth publicity. If no good, will be bad mouthed, otherwise they should survive well enough.
But to grow big and visionary, perhaps you all can invest some money into the business and then help them advise them a business strategy to achieve the vision together. Put the money where the mouth is and be convicted that your idea will work. Don't just talk and have fun with it.
The poor young couple is having a tough time staying in business and they were very grateful to 2 nice persons who got Channel u to provide the publicity.
If you really sincere to help them. so help them by investing money in your idea. If it works, you gonna benefit too. Otherwise don't play around with people's livlihood.
I am only a lay man in F&B, so cannot give any bright idea.

Yeah, what's wrong with their original name? If they change it to some other generic "Thai" sounding thing, it would lose its individuality and sound like "yet another Thai restaurant".
I think it sounds humble, inviting and non-pretentious as it is. More important to keep the food tasty and prices friendly! :)

We are Joe & Jamie from Joe's kitchen - Thai Cuisine. We will like to thank Dr Leslie for helping us organize this "Name our little shop" contest. We have been thinking of changing our shop's name for some time. We wanted a name that will give people the impression of a humble Thai eatery.
We are also grateful to all of you who have posted your entries. We will definitely consider each name carefully before selecting a winner.
We also want to thank Mr Anonymous for his concern.
We promise to work hard at serving quality food at a good price.

Joe and Jamie, for the name, perhaps it would be best if you can incorporate your eatery's greatest appeal/strength, and how you differentiate yourself from other Thai eateries. It also seems you have built up some goodwill for the name "Joe", so maybe you should keep it. I don't profess to know your business, but I reckon authenticity is one of the selling points. So maybe something like
"Joe's Real Thai"
(bit of a pun there, since you really are Thai)

i think a name should be one that can create an identity for the restaurant, fix it in the customers minds. so a classic one would be great. :)
anyway before i announce my idea for your new name, why not change the colour scheme as well. i think purple and yellow with thai-ish cursive is cool :D just a suggestion.. haha.
