Astons Super Burger is on the Menu!
Updates at the end of the blog
In this follow up blog, I want to take you behind the scenes to show you just how much love and dedication go into making a humble Hamburger. After this, I am sure I won't have to tell you "not to try this at home", cos it is much more comfortable to let Aston sweat over the hot stove while you enjoy a ice cold can of Diet Coke (Have to save calories mah!). Believe me, the Burger tastes better if you are not sweaty and greasy when you eat it.
The first step in creating the World's 2nd Best Burger (Leave room for possibilities) is to chop up 200gm of sirloin steak, (Well if you want to be pedantic, the first step is to slaughter the cow) making sure that you have an adequate amount of fat in it so that the pattie is really juicy and full of Beefy flavour (You have to save up your calories for a few days for this Burger!)
The chopped steak is then molded into a thick pattie, with barely any seasoning except for a dash of salt and peppar.
Pop it over a open grill to sizzle while you get all the other stuff ready. Now you might be wondering why the steak is not falling apart since Aston did not put any eggs, flour or binding agents in it. The secret is in chopping the beef just before molding it. The protein strains being freshly bruised still have ability to bind each other. (So if someone where to chop up your thigh, quickly mold it all back and hold in place with tight jeans)
In the meantime, take some finely sliced onions and coat in secret batter with black sesame seeds and deep fry it. Ok don't cringe. This stuff is just heavenly. You will notice that Aston does not use the el cheapo iceberg lettuce. He uses crisp Romaine Lettuce and nice big tomatoes to ensure you get a balanced diet. See, you are getting three proteins and three veg! Balanced.
Meanwhile quickly check back at your pattie and at the same time pop 2 rashers of streaky bacon on the grill. The bacon is there so that you get a balance of 2 different types of meat yah? Remember, don't ever press the meat down with a potato masher (like they do with Ramly Burger). You want all the nutricious juices from the meat to stay INSIDE the pattie.
Now, just before serving, brush the pattie with Astons Hickory Smoked BBQ sauce and lay 2 slices of Kraft cheddar cheese and the 2 aforementioned slices of bacon on top and let the cheese gently melt and mold to the pattie, holding the sauce in.
Thada!! Aston has decided to name this burger in honour of the psychologically challenged blogger who first instigated him to create this over-the-top burger. So when you go to the restaurant, ask for the "ieatSuper Burger". Bit embarrassing, but I would like to share the honour with my fellow makansutra makankakis and all the ieatishootipost blogsters who came down and pestered Aston till he decided to add it to the menu. Guys, YOU made this burger possible. And by the way, if you have any crazy idea, do make it known to Aston through his blogsite, AstonSpecialties.blogspot.com and if enough people want it, he'll name the creation after you too!
What is there to say? Phwaa Sayah! Don't worry about the meat being medium-well, it was left on the grill a bit longer because an inexperienced photographer was taking an inordinate amount of time taking a simple shot.
Taste wise, this pattie is hard to beat. Juicy and Beefy, one bite and I feel like a cowboy. YeeeHah! Combined with the crispy onion frost, BBQ sauce, Aston Secret Special Sauce (not shown - secret mah), crunchy lettuce, tomatoes, bacon and cheese this is easily the best tasting, value for money Burger in town. One piece of advise, ask Aston for extra BBQ sauce if you still feel something is missing.
Conclusion
Aston is quite a perfectionist and he puts a lot of effort into the little details. I am almost going to give this burger a perfect score. OK, I admit I am a bit biased for obvious reasons, so please don't believe me, go try it yourself.
Shiokness Score: 4.75/5
Overall Score: 9/10 (T4+V3+S1+E1)
Update: 1 Oct 2006: Aston now has his own blog where he will keep you updated on the special promotions. Watch out for the upcoming Wagyu Ribeye! Click This for Aston's Blog
Update: 8 Oct 2006: Forummers have noted that the burger comes without fries, but my pics show fries. OK, to be very clear $12.50 only for the burger, no fries, no lettuce, no +++

Thanks a lot for today!
I dedicate this to da man.
Cheers! =)
I think Aston removed his blog.
I'm a big fan of his as well. Loved his sirloin steak.
Nice food with nice atmosphere and reasonable pricing!
Just tried the blogsite. It is working I might have typed the wrong address. Use this:

Great blog. Great story on the SuperBurger. I was so inspired that I specially drove down today to try it. Agree its probably one of the best burgers in Sing today. Small quibble: Sirloin steak IS better burger material but somehow I do miss the minced beef a bit. Secondly: the Onion Glaze was good but slightly overdone. But frankly I'm nit picking. a WINNER. Great price too. Thanks! PS: keep up the good work!
Thanks for your encouragement. You can also comment on Aston's blog

I am sure he could use some encouragement as well
i tried the burger, and personally, i could do w/o the onions - it kinda robs the taste from the patty and bacon.
The good thing about Astons is that he can accomodate your request. Just ask him not to put onions next time! Or if you have something else you want to put in, let him know. Off peak period he can accommodate
FYI don't bother gg Saturday dinner time, the line-up goes right down the street!
Pleeeeaaaaasssseeeee, could you ask Aston's to go halal as well?? Thanks.
Finally went to this place for my 1st wedding anniversary today!Expected, the q is pretty long. Waited for 45 mins to be seated and another 10 mins for the food to be served. However, it was all worth it! :)
We ordered Grilled herd fish and Ribeye Steak ( medium) and 2 ice lemon tea. The steak was indeed THE WAY steak should be. The side dishes are all prepared the way it should be( including the seasonal veg cooked just nice, not overly hard or soft). Aston indeed take pride in every part of their food including the side dishes. All for only S$20.80!!! Definitely value for money!
And we will DEFINITELY go back again.... but prob on a weekday only ( lesser crowd I guessed) :)
* Hubby told me: We might just go back for the Wagyu beef next anniversary when we are richer... for now, we will just settle for the cheaper ones since we are 2 poor souls now ... haha :)
Finally had the ieatsuper burger today....last time I went sold out, second time too many on Q....
The best burger I have had....nice thick patty and generous portions of bacon strips...don't really need the BBQ sauce...loved the crispy onion strips, went very well with the burger...
After reading your blog, we decided to try the ieat super burger and I am very disappointed to report that it was really not all that great. The meat although it was done to proper "rareness" was not at all tender or flavourful. I also tried the grade 5/6 Wagyu which was also disappointing. The cut of meat was too thin and it just wasn't thaat tender. And for close to 40 bucks, I can spend it somewhere else.
We queued up to try Aston's after all the hype but were sorry to find that the ieat super burger and the grade 5/6 wagyu were disappointing. The burger was grilled to the correct "doneness" but just was not tender nor flavourful enough. The slice of wagyu was just too thin and not that tender. And for close to forty bucks I can spend it somewhere else on better beef.
Verdict: not worth the wait nor the money.
must be "green-eyed" competitors again.. *sigh*
i used to be a happy customer and order the ribeye quite often. but post renovation, i find that their prices have all gone up and the ribeye steak i had that day was terrible. the meat was full of unchewable sinews/tendons, it was so unchewable that one piece hit my gums in between my molars and my gums bled. i stopped going to aston since.
I refuse to listen to the negative comments. Astons astons all the way!
I'm an expat who's been craving a good hamburger. Thanks to you, I found it. It was soooooooo good. Thanks again! Bianca.
I chuckled as I read the comments on Astons. There used to be a time when he was located at the corner kopitiam not far from where he is now, the food was good, earnest and cheap. Things have changed since than, too many fans, too long the queues, and when you produce in large quantities in the shortest time available, standards tend to go haywire. Give the guy a chance ok?
I've had this burger a few times, and I must say it's the best burger I've ever had in Singapore. The balance is just right, especially after they added the tomato and lettuce. Everything comes together just right, and importantly, physically stays together start to finish.
I've been to Relish, the supposed burger boutique, and the ieat burger is easily twice as good. They could learn a thing or two from Aston's.
Marmalade's Ultimate Burger is pretty good too, but no contest. I've had burgers here and there, but really, these days there's no point.
I'd like to thank Leslie, cause now, when I feel like a burger, it's off to Aston's I go.
Looks friggin awesome! Aston's embodies total value! thumbs up
Sooooo goood man! You really have to try it! A word of advise - do go on an empty stomach :D
May i noe the price range? is it expensive for the burgers?
