Jalan Sultan Prawn Mee: The Second member of the Prawn Mee Trinity
With liverpool, iwatch_ueat and leon
In my blog on the Joo Chiat Prawn Mee, I mentioned that the original Beach Road Prawn Mee had spawn 3 stalls all serving Prawn Mee of similar taste. This one is owned by one of the grandsons.
I have eaten at all three stalls and find that their soup version is better than the dry version. The soup in all three stalls have got that wonderful ooomph when you drink it. As with all prawn mees, the standard of the soup also really depends on luck. If you get your soup just before they refill it with fresh stock, you are bound to be in for that wonderful umami rush!
Unlike the Auntie's stall at Joo Chiat, this stall gives you the option of ordering Jumbo King Prawns in order to satisfy your prawn craving. The Jumbo Prawn version I ordered cost $8 and the normal one starts from $4. The pork ribs here are big, tender and very shiok. 4.5/5
Conclusion
A great Prawn Mee soup. This stall is a favourite amongst many people so I do not expect that there will be many who will disagree with the high rating.

me always a chilli person, still like the Adam Road dry version...but I really liked the pork ribs! tasty and tender...
oh yeah.... this prawn mee is good! I only eat it once but it still remains deeply in my mind...
However, from what I recall, serving is pretty small... even a petite person like me is not enough for me! ( which is pretty rare as I'm quite a small eater)
I almost want to order another bowl, or maybe I'm just super hungry that day!
Though the shop looks kinda run down and like those sort whereby you sit by the side/back street ( alike those in the 60s/70s), I think that's what brings out the taste even more!
Makes me want to go back again! :)
Looking for a good dry version of prawn noodle?? I suggest you head down to Beach Road Hawker Center opp. Golden Mile Complex. Its on the 2nd floor and its actually a variant of the Prawn Noodles as most of its customers order the dry version and they call it chilli noodle. The chilli is quite shiok ...
Isnt there another stall instead of just 3 stalls? There is one near Arab st on Beach Road opposite from the Park Royal Hotel. I think they are from the same family as the Beach Rd Prawn Noodles at East Coast Rd. Equally good.

According to the Aunty in Joo Chiat, there are 3 stalls. Joo Chiat, the one at East Coast and this one.
Tag, the stall you are referring to is Chung Cheng Prawn noodles http://ieatishootipost.blogspot.com/2006/10/chilli-mee-3-gen-sarawak-receipe-golden.html
Beach Rd Prawn Noodles at East Coast Rd is just 3 minutes' walk from my house! Just had it for breakfast this morning :)
The soup's really yummy.
Yeah..I agree with you readily. MY top prawn mee stall, I feel it's shioker than the one at East Coast Road, soup wise and prawn (not that pale looking relatively speaking). =)
Slurps! Your photos of the noodles are making me drool...
I've been to both the Jalan Sultan and Beach Road (East Coast) shops and I must say that both are excellent, although I'd say that Beach Road is still my first love (because that was where I had my introduction to GREAT prawn mee). What's your take on this? ie who has better noodles?
I notice that although you've raved about the Beach Road shop, (in the Hoe Nam post in October 06) you haven't done a review of it yet-will you be doing one any time soon?
Also, does anybody remember "Whitley prawn noodles" that was previously at Farrer Park? Or is this a figment of my imagination? I remember having absolutely faaaaaantabulous prawn noodles there, but my memory may have been dulled by the passage of time. If anybody knows what happened to the stall, kindly share the info!
Whitley Prawn Noodles shifted to Old Airport Road FC and then to Novena Gardens where they are at currently. Apparently not as shiok as before. Go try it and let us know yah? Let's see who gets to it first!
There is also another place that sells good prawn mee. It is the famous Blanco Court Prawn Mee. The shop are currently located at Haji Lane (facing Beach Rd).
I like this and Beach Road (East Coast) but haven't had both for a long time. Only thing abt ordering from these stand alone kopitiams is that they can never get my order right :( - at the FCs I can watch as they prep and keep reminding them no lard, no fried shallots, no oil~! Haha!
I like my soup clear and not choked with the oily taste
I had my lunch at Blanco court prawnmee today (the one at beach road, opposite plaza hotel). It is the best prawn noodles i have tried. The soup is flavourful and just right. The dry version is just the best. MUST TRY. they close at 4pm though. the lady also said that all the 4 stalls are run by the same family. they are all relatives. Perhaps, you could do a write up about the stall
