STOP PRESS! Wagyu Grade 11 @ Astons
Now THIS is a real "Holy Grail" experience. If you all have been following my blogs, you would know that the one thing that is on the top of my list of food to eat is Kobe Beef. Granted this is not Kobe Beef but I think that it is as close as I would get to eating Kobe Beef in Singapore.
Just when I thought that Wagyu Grade 9 was the best steak available in Singapore, Aston has managed to exceed expectations again by managing to procure this Wagyu Striploin which I think should be at least a Grade 11 on the marbling scale.
According to Aston, the supplier came by and told him that they were sent a batch of these Striploin Steaks which were ungraded. Normally the highest grade only goes to Japan, and the best grade that we get here in Singapore is Grade 9. However, you would agree that the marbling on this steak far exceeds the Wagyu Grade 9 that I blogged about earlier. I don't know about you but this sound suspiciously like some underground smuggling job to me!
I don't think I need to describe the taste of the steak because I don't think I can find the words to do justice to it. The pictures speak for themselves.
I will make one confession. The steak was so rich, that my conscience restricted me from finishing the whole steak. Even though the beef suppliers would insist that 70% of the fats are monounsaturated fats, somehow I still doubt that eating such a fatty piece of meat (or should it be meaty piece of fat) can lower your cholesterol levels. Anyway, I am on a fruit and vegetable fast today and maybe tomorrow!
Conclusion
This one is for the real Steak Afficianados which is why I felt obligated to share it with you immediately. Aston has brought in 9 steaks (as of 11pm yesterday), each weighing 250g and it is priced at $150 with 2 sides. You can eat it all by yourself of course, but I think it is best to share such a steak with a few friends. You will be doing your friends and your body a big favour!

Hey ieat....
WOW! It really looks like a meaty piece of fat! Man.... I think if I ate something like that, my wife would kill me before the clogged arteries do. But it sure looks tempting.....
Tks for sharing! :)
It looks alittle too fatty for my taste. I do like my steak with marbling but this striploin looks as though it's more fat than meat.
Gonna give it a pass.
I was just telling wifey last night that we should share a Wagyu Grade 9 piece and now you put this on the blog.....very very tempting....I go call wifey now.... : )
I have heard that matsuzaka beef from Japan is one of the best... is this the same wagyu you are talking about? What about this kobe beef thingie?
250g $150
1 kg = $600
That is the same price as OTORO MAGURO (fatty tuna belly) SASHIMI
For me, $150 per kg is the limit for stuff I eat.
Saltwetfish, I wrote about this in my previous blog: http://ieatishootipost.blogspot.com/2007/01/astons-wagyu-grade-9-platinum-ribeye.html
hi,
since you are quite a regular with Aston, I am not sure if you know there's another Aston in Serangoon Gardens. It's in one of the corner coffee shop diagonally opposite the coffee bean. Wonder if they are the same?
Yes there are the same. But they serve the standard menu only, including the ieat SuperBurger. The Wagyu and other special beef steaks are not available there.
speedy just said it, my wife will kill me before my arteries clog again! Thanks to her I can save some $ for other meals.
Had Kobe beef many years ago in Kobe, Japan, it was wonderful!especially on Ah Kong's account.
Oooooohhhh!!! That is one fatty piece of meat! I can't bear to look at it, let alone put it in my mouth. I feel my arteries clogging up already :-)
Ooi Ooi... Must try Aburiya @ Holland V. Japanese BBQ - Beef / Seafood Set. Yummy... Pestering SCSbutter to bring me there again!!!!
Oooo , then should pursuade the ASTON at S Garden to start serving up the special beef steaks there !!
Since I live closer to S Garden , than Katong !!
OMG, the beef looks FABULOUS. i'm sure it's all sold out by now though ... :(
guys, can't u just eat the beef without yr wife going along?
LOL!
I leave my girlfriend and friends behind when I go makan!
If I really want to eat something, I eat it either in blissful solitude or with likeminded makan kakis (very few).
Other people that tend to talk alot and want me to talk alot are not welcomed on these trips! Disrupts my concentration.
hi hi, I just went to Aston last weekend and definitely going back there again. I wish I could try this meat. Looks damn good but would burst my budget. :(
what's the opening hours for aston's?

how do u compare this to the grill at greenwood?
I went to Aston's last friday for lunch after reading about everyone raving about it but I was horribly dissappointed! We started with garlic bread which came cold and rock hard. My brother ordered the Wagyu ribeye medium rare but it came rare, and the sides of onion rings and fries were again cold. I ordered the prime tenderloin medium rare which was good well with garden vegetables and potato salad. The beef was good but sides only ok. The vegetables were overcooked and salad had too much mayo. All this aside, the service was excellent but I'm not sure I would go back.
