Whitley Big Prawn Noodle: Remember the Hawker Centre under the flyover?

Do you all still remember the hawker centre that used to be below the Whitley Road Flyover? I used to live near there 20 years ago during my NS days and it used to be my usual haunt to get great hawker food. My wife (my girlfriend then) never ceases to remind me of one particular eating spree where I went amok after having just recovered from my wisdom tooth extraction. I was on soft diet for a week and when they finally removed the stitches, all hell broke loose.

I don't actually remember any particular stalls there. All I remember was that there was a lot of good food. Pity that they had to relocate. I guess eating under a flyover is hardly very sanitary with all that exhaust smoke and soot.

This is one of the stalls that traces its roots from the old Whitley flyover Hawker centre and it is one of those Prawn Noodle stalls that often make it to top ten list of prawn mees in Singapore, so I am sure there are many fans. This is a good bowl of prawn mee but the soup that day lacked ooomph. 4/5

Conclusion

I heard they have another stall over at Novena. I wonder if both are of the same standards?

Hi. Does anyone know where the Amoy prawn noodle moved to? Used to have really long queues during lunch, then it suddenly disappeared. Pls enlighten me. I've searched the vicinity, to no avail. :(

Ooh Leslie, I just reviewed that stall too!

Prawn noodle fan, could it be the one opposite 1 George Street? It's a corner shop.

I ate the dry version just last sat. The soup was bad, quality and quantity wise. Yeah, 3.5 for me.

The one at Novena is quite bland.

Prawn Noodle Fan: is the stall located on the ground level at the corner?

If it is, I'll go check it out next week and keep you updated.

The Whitley Prawn Noodles at Novena Ville used to be very good when they were at the coffeeshop two doors away from Nam Kee.

Nowadays, it's mediocre.

Chocolate Reindeer: The prawn noodles at George Street is very good. I suspect that's the original Whitley Prawn Noodles; or something like the boss used to be a helper at the stall under the flyover cause the stock taste exactly like those I used to slurp every weekend :)

you should try their dry version. must eat the thin beehoon with their chilli.
The novena stall's standard has dropped since the re-opening of old changi road stall. The prawns are smaller too.. i think the old changi road is still e better stall

Hi Dr Tay,

At the Old Airport Road Market, there is the lor mee stall that never fails to have an extremely long queue. They use fish meat for their ingredients. Perhaps you can try it. :)

You should try the prawn noodles at this small coffee shop in Toa Payoh Lorong 1, behind CHIJ Toa Payoh, i think. The noodles are the best, add some red chilli into the soup as well as the noodles, you'll be amazed. Quite alot of prawns, meat and fishcake given. Sauce is excellent. And it's only $2.50, one of the best priced very good prawn noodles.

speaking about the old "under the bridge" place, it used to house my all-time fav soup tulang.
however, eversince they closed that place down, i've never had a soup tulang as good as the one that used to be there.
any ideas?

haven't been for over a year as disappointed by the quality. but went last week and had the thick beehoon, dry. it was great. prawns were fresh, bee hoon was al dente. soup was nice too. will be going back soon.

p/s i paid for the $8 bowl so that might have made a difference.
