Famous Sungei Road Trishaw Laksa: A very different Mee Siam!
Damien has put his head on the chopping board yet again when he recommended the mee siam from this particular stall. He told me that the Mee Siam here is "Damn Shiok leh" and it's a definite "must try".
I was a little confused when I saw the stall because their signboard said "Sungei Road Trishaw Laksa". So it should be the Laksa that is the signature dish right? So I asked the owner just which of his dishes is the really outstanding one to which he gave the usual reply, "They are all outstanding". Hmmm, that was a great help. Ok, I can't decide, so I had to try both.
The Laksa comes with a very light gravy that was more to the soupy end of the spectrum. So you could drink a lot of it without getting jialak (indigestion). However, that does not mean that the flavour is compromised. The soup is still quite fragrant and has the savoury sweetness of dried prawns which I enjoy. 4.25/5
The mee siam here is very different from the usual mee siam that you get. It is made with fruit juice instead of tamarind and is quite tangy. Great for those people like Damien who like soury stuff. It's a very different mee siam and definitely a place where mee siam lovers should plan a pilgrimage to. 4/5
Conclusion
The laska and mee siam here have very distinct characteristics which sets them apart from a lot of other stalls. Worth a visit to try them out.

laksa's good, not too lemak and I always manage to visit them when the mee siam is so out.. :(
oh my goodness, the meesiam looks delish. Drool~~
I usually visit their stall when I visit chinatown.. they also have a really good Mee rebus with crispy dried prawns on the top, love it..
I think the chicken in the laksa is really good.
the mee siam apparently is popular with the ladies..as according to the boss..but I have not tried it yet..haha!
Mee siam is good there. Could've bumped into you, was eating bak-kut-teh downstairs.
tried both the laksa and mee siam today. nothing special. not worth the trip.
hi leslie,
been hearing ur food segment on 93.8 live for a while now. but today, i saw someone printing this page off ur blog at a photo lab. he's none other than the owner of this laksa stall. he was smiling ear to ear when he told me about your visit.
i'm going back on monday to try them:)
Have been eating the mee siam and mee rebus for lunch these past year and they have been consistently good.
Mee Siam usually sells out by 2pm so better go early to get your fix.
The Hakka Yong Tau Foo along the same row also must try.
I spy.. cockles..!! yums..!! another gotta eat store.. ;)
I like the mee siam. I've been looking around for this type of sourish mee siam for a while. But the $2 one really not enough for me.
i've finally tried both laksa n mee siam e day before!!
oh boy! e laksa was great!! i finished every bit of food n gravy n dun feel jialak at all!! plus i ordered a $4 portion n e ingredients r so generous!! (it's my first time trying)
but i wouldn't say e same for e mee siam.. e gravy is not sourish enough for me.. although gravy is made from fruit juice but i dun taste any difference lei.. still prefer a good sourish gravy mee siam anytime!
however, i'll still go back for e laksa! ;) damn good!!
Hi doc,
Hope you are recovering well.
Would like to suggest that the postal code be given along with the address of the maken place. Would be easier to locate the place in streetdirectory.com.
Thanks.
hi anonymous writer,
all of leslie's food entry's addresses can be found easily on streetdirectory.com if u haven't already tried..
btw, pls do give yourself a pen name, ya? ;)
the mee siam's soup is really nice. i didn't know how big the portion supposed to be so i ordered the $2 one. ah.. it's only about a few mouthfuls! :(
will try their laksa next time. love laksa too.
oh, the previous Anon is me. tried the laksa today. Nice! (thumbs up) finished every bit of food & gravy except the prawn shells & no greasy feeling.
the boss talked to me asking how's the laksa. (very good lor what else) i said i got to know about his stall from Dr Leslie's blog & he said Dr was all praises after testing his food, haha. the boss put his heart & soul into his cooking & research of the food he sells. as i noticed from my 2 trips there, most of his patrons finished all food & gravy in their bowls/plates. don't waste boss 的心血 you know.. so i think, delicious food also cuts down food wastage.
t'boss recommends his mee rebus next time i go, and yes! i like mee rebus tooo.
tried the mee rebus today. not bad lah! but my personal favourites are the mee siam & laksa. i'm a mee siam hantu. this mee rebus is quite different from other stalls. the boss sprinkled dried shrimps on top & drizzled dark soya sauce on the egg.

For those that like the chinese-styled tangy mee siam, Dino Confectionary at Upper Thomson also serves-up a delectable one.
Price - $3.50 for a regular bowl and $4.50 for a large bowl.
The laksa also worth trying as well as the cakes.
The minimum portion now cost $2.50 for the laksa, mee rebus and laksa.
Still one of my favourite mee siam and mee rebus. Agree that the $2.50 portion a little small that's why I ordered a mee rebus to top it off.
The tang in mee siam leaves me craving for more and since the gravy is not oily, it removes the guilt of slurping it all down.
The mee rebus is also not too sweet and starchy unlike those found nowadays.
There's a stall of fantastic mee siam at Blk 539 Bedok North Street 3. The stall opens in the morning only and the mee siam has a tangy taste too. It seems lighter and healthier on top of being delicious.
The stall is operated by a husband and wife team and they prepared the "mee" themselves. Their mee rebus is yummy too!!
