Legendary Satay Bee Hoon: East Coast Food Village Part 3 of 7
With ieatMaMA and ieatMrs
It's funny why there are not more Satay Bee Hoon Stalls around Singapore. The demand for this famous Satay Bee Hoon is so great that at 10.30pm at night, the queue is still 30 minutes long!
I was never that big on Satay Bee Hoon, but mom is. So after a 30 min wait, we were finally blessed with the plate of beehoon, cuttlefish, prawns, meat and See Hum (cockles) drowned in a creamy peanut sauce. I can't remember the last time I tasted Satay Bee Hoon (might have been twenty years ago), but man! I suddenly realise why the people don't mind waiting.
The peanut sauce was really creamy and you can savour the taste the freshly roasted peanuts. Its almost like eating peanut butter with curry spices. I was told by my friend, Holy Drummer who is a big fan of the Satay Bee Hoon (He eats it every fortnight at least) that the reason the peanut sauce is so creamy is that they use a Coffee Grinder to grind the peanuts! The prawns and other ingredients are very fresh although they use only small prawns. At the end of the day it is the Sauce that is the real star. Forget all the other ingredients, I just want bee hoon and Satay Sauce.
Another day, another Makansutra Legend tried. These guys have been doing this for over 30 years and they do deserve to be Legends.
Conclusion
I like it but I don't think I'd wait 30 mins to eat it. If however, I am at the East Coast Lagoon Food Village and there were only 2 people queueing up, I'd quickly join the queue to get a Satay Bee Hoon fix. 4.5/5

Hi hi,
Just stumbled upon ur blog today.
Its a kickass blog, and with every entry, u make me wet..... my saliva glands, that is.
I'd like to reccomend my favourite Satay Bee Hoon stall in Sg.
That is the one which is located in Redhill market, just a stone throw's away from Redhill MRT. Its way cheaper than the stall in ECP as it comes in $2.50 and $3 portions. You may of cos request for a supersize to a $4 portion if you wish to.
Overall, it tastes better, its cheaper and the queue/waiting time is shorter.

The satay bee hoon in ECP is the best ever i have tried in Singapore. I always look out for satay bee hoon anywhere I go since I've tried that ECP one, but sad to say that none is as good as half of the standard and taste of it.
Even on weekday around 6pm the queue has already about 10-20 persons, which means the waiting is already about half an hour. So no point go early, anytime you go, you will have to wait, but don't go too late when sold out.
I grew up eating the Satay Bee Hoon in Redhill market. Still the best Satay Bee Hoon around in terms of quality and price.
Very disappointed that you only have ONE satay beehoon recommedation!!! I have one that is better than East Coast's. IT is SIN CHEW SATAY BEEHOON at Bukit Timah Hawker Centre Stall 162
Well, there are not many Satay Bee Hoon stalls to start with. The last time I was at Bukit Timah FC, the stall you recommended was closed.
For two consecutive weeks I have been jogging on East Coast on Thursdays with colleagues and even the marathon runners stop short to enjoy this Satay Bee Hoon. The gravy is really good and I slurp all up except the "harm" which is harmful. Queue continue to be long but the two Uncles continue to be slow snails.
oh well, some great tasting food still taste great(sometime even better)after the long waiting time. but this one just doesn't make the cut. Had to queue for ard 45min once. and once is enough.
Definitely not worth the Q , even for free. The satay beehoon at chomp chomp is definitely much better. The 2 uncles are putting on an act. Take 3 pcs of pork and put back 1 pcs as if measuring the weight, he did the same for the prawn and been hoon. Damn bloody slow that's why the Q is perpetual
The Bukit Timah Food Centre one is really very good, and I think it's re-opened cause I just ate it and it just puts a smile on my face :)
NEWS: Found a better SATAY BEEHOON!
Located at Zion Riverside Food Centre STall 15
Name: XIN FU KOU FU- meaning Heart Contended Mouth Contended!!! Special right?
What till you try the Satay Beehoon....and the HUNKS that works there.....
I tested it myself and was very convinced...they even say " Money Back Guarantee" if i don't like it....too bad i can't win my money back but at least i'm CONTENDED!
Cheers- to all Satay Beehoon Lovers
Agree. The uncles are just wayanging and deliberately holding up the queue to make it long. No reason why a satay bee hoon queue should not move as fast as say, a laksa or mee siam queue.
