Han Kee Fish Porridge Amoy Street Food Centre Part 3 of 5

Healthy stuff can't be all that tasty right? Wrong! This is one very tasty bowl of fish soup and it is healthy as well! It is probably one of the icons of Amoy Street Food Centre. One of the forummers (bobafett) is even willing to stick out his neck to proclaim it the best fish porridge in Singapore!

Uncle tells me that they use only good quality Knife Brand vegetable oil here and there is no pork lard used. The stock is also made purely from boiling the bones of the Batang (Mackeral). He would start boiling the soup from 5am in the morning and it would only be ready by 10am. For those more adventurous, you can also partake of the other parts of the fish like the eyes, head, stomach area, roe and the mail equivalent of roe. (Which I find very hard to put in writing)

You have to eat this piping hot because you don't want to overcook the fish. The fish is very fresh and the meat is firm but still delicate. Unlike most other fish porridge I have eaten, this one comes without the skin, so you don't get the Chow Chor (fishy odour) smell. The soup is really sweet and you can taste the quality and the effort that goes into the preparation. Even if you don't like fish, you might still like this because it isn't really fishy at all.

Yet another Teochew Ah Hia adament on using only the freshest ingredients! Again equally Hao Lian (Proud) about the quality of his food!

Conclusion

You don't have to wait until you are feeling guilty about all the unhealthy stuff you have eaten whole week to eat this. This is healthy stuff that you can really enjoy and still feel that you have done your heart a favour after that. 4.5/5

Had lunch there today (my favourite Pao JI was closed). Yes the soup is tasty but he marinated the fish with salt first.I can taste the saltyness of the fish meat.Otherwise it is good.

Has anyone tried the XO fish beehoon at Holland V, the old coffeeshop? CAN WE ALL BOYCOTT that stall!!!! 1st, the people were so damn rude when you ordered and when you asked for less oil and more veg, they simply think that your an idiot requesting for that! And I feel, its too expensive with alot of MSG added to it. Geesh!

The fish is marinated with salt water to hive it the cruncy texture, most TeoChew fish porridge stall do that.

At last, a stall the use freshly fried schallots!

Must say it is very good value, with generous serving of fish. Their fish roes is good too.

There is an auntie who tried to memorize the orders from many people. Today, it was the 2nd time she made mistake with my order. i specifically mentioned "you"(thin) mifen. not only she missed my order, which i still find acceptable. then i was given thick mifen, which i then told the stall helper. She said rudely and loudly i did not mention i wanted thin mifen. i tried to reason with her and she insisted loudly. though the food is nice, but the service is really disappointing.

i eat there at least twice a week, and the number of queue jumpers has really increased of late, It is really starting to tick me off.

Today, there were as good as 2 queues - the real queue, and the bozos who kept butting in.

What makes it worse is that these bozos are the ones who order like 3, 4, 5 plus bowls at one go.

totally agree with Anonymous (February 6, 2009 12:18 AM). the auntie tries too hard to memorize the orders. especially when we have 3-4 different orders, she can't handle it at all! and her attitude depends on her mood.

there was once when she took my order and she obviously made a mistake. when i immediately corrected her mistake, she insisted i told her otherwise. good grief!
