Hua Kee Hougang Famous Wanton Mee: Old Airport Road Food Centre Part 6 of 9
When you get to Old Airport Road Food Centre, you will find that there are 3 Wonton Mee stalls. The Red Signboard one, the Green Signboard one and the Yellow Signboard one. So which one to choose? Now I have not tried all three, but someone else (bobafett) did and he recommended the Red, followed by the Yellow, followed by the Green. Sounds like traffic lights eh? Red light it is!
This stall has been around for over 40 years and was started by the owner's father. They used to make their own noodles, but now they have it made by the factory. Now that is not necessarily bad, because the factory makes their noodles according to their own specifications. According to the owner, the ball of raw noodles costs about 4 times the price of the normal ball of noodle. Of course, he did not share what actually went into the noodles.
So the special thing about the stall is the noodle and the chilli sauce. The non-chilli version gets a sauce made from 4 different unmarked bottles of sauces. (These guys are very secretive, their whole stall is almost covered and you get to peer in only from a narrow doorway!
Well, the 4 times more expensive noodles actually do taste really good and the texture is very QQ. The Char Siew and Wontons were good. Mom really liked the texture of the noodles. I took the noodles with and without the chilli and I really can't say that I find the chilli all that fantastic. Then again I am not a big chilli person, so you will have to decide for yourself. 4/5

This is my fave wanton noodle stall that I would always patronise when I was there. In my opinion that the best that I have try till now.
Somehow I just find that their chilli is yummy.
this stall is good, so is the stall with the clinic like queueing system. you know, the number by number one?
i live there. i remember ten years ago, this red store does not exist! They were selling something else.. porridge i think. So, how can they say they are selling wanton mee for 40 years? i wonder if they adopt the story from it's competitor.
the 'green store'.. i do not know how long they have been in operation. but, it was previously operated by the current's owner's father. So, you can imagine how long it is in business... I think it's customer who have been patronising will know better. haha.
Ytd went there for the Wanton mee and find that they no longer have the $2 portion already. The portion does not seem to have increase.
the other (green) store still have $2.
i went to Old Airport Rd Market yest wanting to try out some food featured here but realised the stalls r in the midst of moving to the new market..many were not opened...

I went on sunday, wow and it's crowded. i never get to try this stall, instead i go Q up at another stall also selling wanton mee. Stall name is Kallang Wanton Mee #01-61. I can tell u that the noodle and wanton is very good. the soup also very tasty. That's day i order $3 wanton mee dry + $3 wanton dry. Actually i wanted to order the shrimp dumpling but sold out already.
