Inspirasi Stall: Inspiring Soto Ayam: Bedok Interchange Food Centre Part 1 of 7
With smart, holydrummer and iwatch_ueat
There are very very few places left in Singapore where you can get something tasty that you can rave about for $1.50 and still be full after that. This is one of those few places, which is why there is still a long queue when we got there in the afternoon.
Right in the middle of this small family run stall is a boiling cauldron of really tasty chicken soup. There was hardly any room left to move around!
We all agreed that the soto ayam (Cubed rice, chicken, bean sprouts and a pototo cake in a spicy chicken broth) was really good. The soup was sweet and savoury and the portion was really generous for $2.00. According to iwatch_ueat, our Malay food expert, this is about as good as soto ayam gets. (She wasn't all that impressed with this one, just that she does not know anywhere else with better soto ayam - so is this really as good as it gets?). Others have insisted that this one is quite ordinary and the word "overated" have been used by some. Still no one could tell me where to find the ultimate Soto Ayam. Until we find the World's Best Soto Ayam, I will give this one a 4.25/5
Inspirasi has been around for a good 30 years. It was started by the late husband of the friendly MaCik (Aunty) who arrived from Indonesia and started this stall. We only tried the Soto Ayam since this was the dish featured in the Makansutra Legends. Some people say their mee rebus is also quite good. If you have tasted it before, let us know ok?

At $1.50 this stall is still one of the best Soto Ayam in Spore. They do take alot of passion to serve this soto ayam. Sadly some soto ayam stalls add sugar but this stall took the trouble giving you the chicken (ayam) in the soup. Sound like Brand Essence of Chicken? I too am waiting to find any better soto ayam. There is a good one at Haig Road Hawker Centre but I am sure there are 'super good one'around.
Their mee rebus is also value for money at $1.50.
The gravy is not overtly sweet, however, their "taugeh" (beansprouts) are slightly raw during the peak hour because they do not blanch it long enough.
For big eaters, would recommend upsizing it to $2.
For good mee rebus, could try the stall (forgot the name) at Haig Road FC.
Yeah, I agree with the tau geh part. I've tried their mee rebus too and found their version quite good with the kuah(sauce) flavoured with sweet potato and dried shrimps.
well, to be honest, i'm not gonna raved about this soto ayam soup. it's "ordinaire" (eh, to me only, ok). anyone else can say it's superb. probably like smart says, "one of the best soto ayam in singapore". ok, are we still in search of the best of the best?
The Soto Ayam is $2.00. Only the mee rebus and mee soto is priced $1.50. Notice a drop in their overall standard like lesser chicken shreds and the soup is blander now.
Thanks for the correction. I have done the necessary corrections.
hi!
abit disappointed that some of my fav are not featured. FYI:
1. hokkien mee stall. Can't remember the unit#, but it's near the toilet, along the stretch facing the carpark. the hokkien mee is the slightly watery-type, with very nice chilli.
2. kuey chay stall, facing the interchange. it only opens in the morning. not cheap at all, but the intestines are very smooth and chewy. worth a try.
BTW, love your website, have been visiting it regularly and trying out your recommendations. thanks!
Sorry lah. Your hokkien mee stall might be very good, but I can't rave about it since there are other much better ones around the area! Must try Nam Sing at Old Airport Road, Kim's at Joo Chiat Place and Lor 29 Geylang at East Coast Road!
I don't have the luxury of eating in the morning, so may not have the chance at the Kway Chap!
my wife dragged me there coz she raves abt the soto ayam, tried it n found it 2 b so sweet tat i neaarly threw up.....sori but tat was how i felt. dunno y the super long queue, tot had a chio bu there hehehheheh
the soto gravy too sweet la... dunno y so long queue everyday..mayb their blackmagic strong hahahaha jus joking, no harm meant...
I have to agree that the Mee Soto was a tad bit too sweet for my taste. I am puzzled as to why there is always a queue at the stall though. Maybe its just that the prices are cheap?
The quality is inconsistent but here is how I think you should eat Inspirasi Soto Ayam for maximum taste. Mix up the chilli and mashed the begedil that comes with it into the soup. It would taste so much better.
For those who are around Maxwell Food centre, you may want to try the Soto ayam from the Malay stall in the front row. $2.50 per bowl but the soup is good and the begedil is super - the type you made from scratch rather than from instant mash potato powder.
Adams Road Food Centre Mee Soto is good. There are other great food there, such as the famous Nasi Lemak and Dessert stall.
Hi tequila....
FYI i know where to get the best hokkien mee... my fav is "fried sambal hokkien mee with cili padi" @ 295, upper paya lebar rd (AUPE club). u should try it coz for me i had tried alot of places but AUPE is the best taste to me.... no regret!
