Song Zhou Luo Bo Gao: Are you a Black or White Carrot Cake Fan?: Bedok Interchange Food Centre Part 2 of 7
With holydrummer, smart and iwatch_ueat
How did that Michael Jackson song go again? ".....it doesn't matter if you're black or white..."
I beg to differ. When it comes to Carrot Cake there are 3 types of people in the world. There are those who love the BLACK one. There are those who love the WHITE one. And there are those who think that carrot cakes are supposed to have cream cheese icing.
I belong to the group who love the BLACK one. So I will just say that the white one was pretty good and that 2 of the 4 people in the group who belong to the white consortium liked it enough to give it a 4/5.
Now what I like about the BLACK one is the fact that they really chop up the carrot cake into small itsy bitsy little bits and coat it with a generous amount of sweet black sauce. That's the way, Ah Huh, Ah Huh, I like it Ah Huh Ah Huh!. Actually, sometimes I feel a bit silly raving about what really amounts to eating a sweet black sauce with oil, eggs and carbs. I mean, put in enough black sauce and they all should taste the same, shouldn't it? Still, I like it but I can't afford to eat too much of it. 4/5
Conclusion
Wouldn't mind going back for the black one again when I am at Bedok Interchange.

The black carrot cake at this stall is "killer" manz... (not in the literal term)
The arteries clogging, diabetes and cancer causing (carcinogenic due to the "chao tar" bits) chai tao kway at this stall never fails to lift up my spirits. And it's pretty addictive too.
The first few mouthfuls usually taste ordinary but after awhile, you just can't stop eating it.
Always order the $2 version + 2 eggs = shiokalicious!
Black or white depend on the stalls I go. If Lau Goh I will go for the White. This bedok stall is one of my favourite. I usually go for the Black because they serve in smaller bits then you can enjoy what is Carrot Cake Black. On that day I found the Black too sweet. At $2/ it is a steal.
Guys Guys Guys, be civilized! BLACK is ok with me. It's just that it's sweeter and as for WHITE, it's nice pleasant and that original taste "Phew" never lets me down. Holydrummer, u agrees with me?
With conflict, it's not so black-n-white after all huh! =D
I'm for white. Period. =)
Hi guys, this is my favourite carrot cake stall of all time. You have to eat his white version, it has lots of added ingredients, even prawns and squid.
go try Katong Jago's Carrot Cake @ Fu Sen Eating House along east coast road. its at the corner of jago close... a few doors away from Chin Mee Chin.
ask for more black sauce, add extra egg. should warrant at least a 4 rating in my opinion.
Yes, though carrot cake ranks in the top ten favourite hawker food, there has not been many recommendations! Will have to try this one!
Yes my daughter also like this carrot cake.
next to the Pontian Wanton Mee.... It taste good..... Love the black version better.......
I remember 3 years ago, the carrot cake was only $1.50 a plate, and I used to order a plate of black one, with 2 addition eggs, and that owuld cost just $2.50.
I went there last week to have a go again at the carrot cake and the price has gone up to quite alot, its $2.50 now a plate. Additional egg would be $3, which is a must have for me. I ordered a black carrot cake + egg + extra black.
Upon the arrival of my plate, the extra black carrot cake didn't turn out to be extra black, in fact, it seems lighter than others around me. (Urghs) And I can't really sense my extra egg. where did my extra egg go to?
The taste wasn't as great as before, I guess maybe the auntie that's cooking it have aged. However, its still above average and is still 1 of the better ones around.
The sad part is, when I was done eating, while walking back I saw a guy eating his black carrot cake and his carrot cake is like almost double the darkness than mine.
I guess the auntie needs some consistancy and pay more attention..
$5 with prawns and squids. Worth every cents. The best carrot cake I ever ate till now.
