Tian Tian Chicken Rice: The chilli man, its the chilli Maxwell Food Centre Part 1 of 8

When you are as famous as Tian Tian Chicken Rice, you are bound to attract controvesy. Oh yes, when you are so famous that the name Tian Tian is synonymous with Maxwell Food Centre, arguably one of the greatest Food Centres in Singapore, AND, you are the one Chicken Rice that Anthony Bourdain tasted when he was here, THEN you are bound to have complaints when the chicken rice does not meet up with the high expectations. So it is with trepidation we taste tested the chicken rice.
I am happy to report that the chicken rice passed the taste test with flying colours that day! The chicken was tender and flavourful but I feel the real stars are the rice, the chilli and the mysterious sauce that they bathe the plate of chicken in.
You can see that the rice is beatifully presented. Each grain coated with savoury chicken broth. It is not too oily and the texture and flavour is excellent.
The chilli here is quite shiok and very different from other stalls. The "secret" to this, is, as Aunty tells us, her use of limejuice instead of vinegar! Imagine how many limes they had to squeeze to get this bottle of lime juice.
Conclusion
We all felt that the chicken rice lived up to expectations that day! 4.5/5 Phew!

Tried it 2x a few years back but was unimpressed. Must try again.
same here..felt that the mysterious sauce was way too salty and spoilt the taste of the chicken..mayb its time to try again one of these days..
For a very anal critic when it comes to chicken-rice chilli, I have to admit that Tian Tian's absolutely mind-blowing. In all honesty, just a bowl of their very fragrant rice ( super chewy and in full whole grains - just the way i like it ) and a hearty serving of their chilli makes the perfect comfort meal!
It was tangy, spicy enough, and highly appetizing!
I am a fussy chicken eater, yet aside from the fact that it wasn't boneless, I highly enjoyed the soft, smooth and tasty chicken.
when come to steam chicken rice, i'm very very super fussy and picky. but this chicken rice... is realy marveliciously good (eh! stop comparing with holland V okie!). these are two different stall owners and of diffent style. and hey, i like it very very much!
Don't have to think of what to eat now with your blog if I go to the Food Centres that you have visited with your stomach...just had this for Sunday lunch, yes the chicken and rice were good...juicy enough and not to much fatty skin....rice not too oily..
Oh yes..I think the aunty forgot to add in the lime juice that you had mentioned...must have been too busy...chilli not that good...
feel bad to say this.. but cos my grandma cooks very good chicken so i prefer my chix without the sauce.. tts also the reason y nowadays the chix can afford to have not much flavour of their own and rely on the sauce...
anyone know which chicken rice stall serves yummy chicken on its own?
My personal fav is Yee Cheong Yuen but people who like tasty chicken can try Kampung Chicken house. Both have been blogged here. I was told Yet Con Chicken quite tasty because it is steamed but never tried recently. Tried a few years ago, remember the taste to be very strong.
tian tian! definintely worth the time spent on queueing.

Dear ieat, looking at your chicken rice post made me salivate almost all the time. But i cannot eat it as i'm a muslim. I'm a fan of your blog and always look forward for what you have install for us everytime i log into the internet. I think for the sake of all the muslim out there why not you blog a halal chinese chicken rice for us. That will be great. For a start i would recommend you to go try the famous Evertop Halal Hainanese Chicken Rice at Clementi Ave 2. To me it is absolutely a must try for all.
I will try my very best! Is there one in the East? Like Bedok, Geylang Serai, Eunos area? As you can see most of my adventures are in the East because
Kindly adv where is this place Clementi Ave 2 but any Block Nos.?What so special about this muslim chicken rice? die die must try? If so will try make a trip there someday.
I have tried Tian2 but they had not left an impression on me.
Have you tried my favourite (for now) Heng Kee 亨记 over at the main Chinatown hawker center? This stall is famous for only opening from 3pm-9pm (something like that) but always sold out by 8pm! Certain days not open somemore. Used to be manned by some gangster cooks but the chicken is the best! Rice only served in bowl.
But must warn you first theirs is an acquired taste so if you try it I will not be surprised at some negative comments on their rice esp.
Bad news is I think they are taking a break now due to the ongoing reno at that hawker center :(
Their beansprout cutterfish is worth trying.
