Toa Payoh Rojak, Take a number please! Old Airport Road Food Centre part 3 of 9
This rojak is so popular that it has a numbering system like you would find in a clinic. The reason it takes so long is that they insist on charcoal grilling every You Char Kway before cutting it up and mixing it with the rojak sauce.
I really enjoyed the Tau Pok and You Char Kway here. Super crispy and the Penang Heh Gor (Prawn paste) based rojak sauce was excellent. The one setback is that I found the peanuts a bit on the dry side. They actually don't grind their own, but get it ready ground from a special supplier. But after it is mixed with the sauce it is ok.
The good news is that this old man has an heir apparent in line, so we will get to savour this rojak for another generation.
Conclusion
Its got its own ticketing system, do I really need to say more? 4.25/5

Let's me be the 1st to comment on this stall. Yesterday i have my hokkien mee, But i not full. I order a plate of rojak (consist of only you tio & pineapple) to eat. Everything was done beautifully. If u really gonna to try, better let the old man prepare for u. I felt that the young man led some skills. I will definity return to try again.
I ate it today. You tiao and taupok not crispy. Disappointing.
excellent Rojak! The sauce is the best I have tasted so far.
When I tried this rojak, I found the prawn paste really stink, like something you puked out. I've not tried anything else recommended in this blog after that. It had been like flipping a coin, 50/50 chance. Bad quality rice (geylang serai) and not that fresh ingredients (prawns at Laksa stall in Bedok Interchange) are a couple of recommendations which I didn't enjoy.
Leslie,
I am surprised that you have not had this before. They were in Toa Payoh hawker centre in the 70's all the way till 1994 when the hawker centre was demolished. In the past, the YCK was all done over charcoal, only in the 90's was this changed to electric grilling. Spent a lot of time watching him prepare the rojak when I was younger. Of course eating as well, hehe.
