Yong Kee Fish Ball Noodle: Fishball at 2am anyone? ABC Food Centre Part 3 of 4
It is good to know that the humble fishball is experiencing a revival. Years ago the NEA (Environment Agency) restricted hawkers from making their own fishball for the sake of hygiene, it almost marked the dissappearance of the homemade fishball. Thankfully, the decision has been reversed and now I am discovering more and more homemade fishball vendors.
This particular stall not only sells fishballs, they also sell an interesting meatball which is a mix of pork, fish, chillies and spring onions.
One thing that is really good when the stall makes its own fishball is the soup. That is because the soup is made from the water that is a byproduct of the fishball making process. So this soup is really tasty and clear. The fish balls were excellent. They was tasty and had a great bouncy texture. 4/5 I wasn't too overwhelmed by the meatballs however, and would just go for the fishballs next time. 3.5/5
I just need to mention that if you are craving for fishballs at an unearthly hour, you can come down to ABC Food Centre because this stall is opened till 2am!! It is run by a husband and wife team that rotate on 2 shifts and they still managed to have 4 kids! Funny. Some people work really hard so that people like us can have something to eat late at night!

Did not enjoy the meatballs as much as the fishball as I got pretty "jerlak" after the 3rd one.
Most fishballs usually have this "chao chor" (fishy) taste but not at this stall.
Also tried the fishballs at the stall next to this which had an image of Wong Sar (old skool comedian) endorsing it.
Pretty good too but Yong Kee edges it by a little because the soup was not as salty as the former.

The fishball is nice...springy. But noodles can't make it lah. Sorry.
i agree, the noodles kinda suck. but the fishballs are good.
haiyah i know what is wrong. you guys need to come at night shift (7pm - 3am) when the original cook will be on shift. i first tried it during that shift and it was really nice. the proportion of chilli/fish sauce/oil/vinegar, plus the duration of boiling the noodles and the amount of noodles is really really balanced.
today i went at lunchtime, it was cooked by a woman who obviously does not know the importance of proportion. she put in too much chilli, not enough oil, too much noodles, and the noodles were so hard cos they were undercooked. from a 9/10 the rating slid to 5/10, just because of these simple but important factors.
i don't think the dault lies with the lady. Lunch time is usually extremely crowded and i think its extremely commendable for her to produce such good food despite the demanding crowd
