Daily Scoop: Churn the Cream and Whisk the Waffles
I was sent to this stall in sleepy Sunset Way by the Big MOG who would visit the shop to satisfy his ice cream crave every time he is in Singapore. You may not know who the Big MOG is or maybe you do. He is quite well known among the people at Church of Our Saviour as well as many other churches. Anyway I always enjoy sitting down with the Big MOG to listen to his many stories. You know how there are some people who really put you at ease when they speak to you because their words are full of grace and you always walk away feeling very blessed? The Big MOG is one such person. I never walk away without learning something about life and how to live it better. Big hearted but unfortunately also big bellied, I always have to straddle the tightrope between blessing him with his favourite dessert and looking after his health!
Anyway I found myself in a quiet part of Singapore on a lazy weekday afternoon only to find a small ice cream cafe that was buzzing with activity. Oh yeah, it was like an oasis in the desert.
What makes this ice cream parlor different from the rest is the fact that they churn their ice cream by hand. So it is quite interesting to watch the liquid cream being poured onto the cold pan and turning to ice cream as they churn it around. According to the owner their ice cream has less air than those that are machine churned. In order to make the ice cream more healthy, the ice cream is made from low fat milk, no eggs and is not overly sweet.
I found the ice cream here to be more subtle than the other ice cream boutiques that I have blogged. I tried the brandied fig and honey. It was pleasant but did not have enough kick from the brandy. The butterscotch was much better but I still felt that the flavors could be more robust. 4/5
However, the real gem lies in the cones and waffles which were very very good. On a weekend, you will have to wait quite a long time to get your waffles! It was crisp on the outside and airy inside with a strong buttery vanilla flavour. Excellent with the chocolate ice cream which was not overly sweet and just slightly bitter. The combination of the homemade cone really lifted the flavour of the butterscotch ice cream. 4.5/5
Conclusion
Great waffles and cones. The ice cream is good but I have yet to find the ice cream flavour that I really really like.

yeah... the ice cream is good! i like the avocado favour but my friends didnt like it. They think its tasteless.
the peanut butter flavour. really good.
ah thanks for the links to the sermons, finally managed to start to listening to them!..
I finally get to read your post on The Daily Scoop which is 1 of my 3 most favorite homemade ice cream parlors. I love their Green Tea & Red Beans the most because it’s bitter enough for me despite the red bean add-ins and still enjoyable. Banana Fantasy is great too and I get to munch on the banana bits. I also love their Simple Vanilla, Cherry Brandy, SoBerry Cheez, Chunky Peanut Butter, Nutty Macadamia, Butterscotch Pecan, Cha, Kookie Monster and Sensual Tiramisu. Contrary to the majority’s favorite since I read about the Brandied Figs & Honey being their best seller, it fails to appeal to me despite a number of samplings whenever I visit The Daily Scoop. It’s mainly due to the mild alcohol content and presence of honey. I dislike honey in my ice cream as I personally find the 2 of them don’t blend well at all.
This is the one I'll consume whenever I'm at Daily Scoop!
You have to try their lychee martinin flavour. It's really light and delicious though there isn't much of the "martini" bit...
i LOVE waffles! :D
are daily scoop's waffles as good as gelare's? (:
Yumm! Breakfast food! Will most certainly visit the place!
I feel the waffles are as good as gelares
erm,
how are the prices like ah?
if i have to ask, does it mean i wont be able to afford them?
If I am not wrong it is 8.80 for 700g or 1 pint. Around the same prices as the other local ice creameries. Check their website
my fave is the lychee martini. Not much of the martini flavour there like kate mentioned but the lychee is light and refreshing. give it a try the next time.
(must) try the chunky peanut butter.
D
Icekimo at Sin Ming is good too.. their durian and jempedad icecream is oh so delicious....
had tried icekimo once.. not my cup of tea..
still prefer tom's n have yet to try daily scoop but will do so very soon!
do the cempadek at daily scoop. it's good stuff! the choc's good too!
e choc ice cream in e first picture has me drooling all over e desk liao!! haha
For me, the gems here are the durian, cempedak and coconut. The non-asian flavs are just alright...
Their waffles are one of the best around, albeit their ice-cream could be better.
My favourite parlours in descending order are Tom's Palette - for their Ed's Tea (strong yet pleasant after tea taste)and longan and dates, Daily Scoop for their chocolate flavours and Island Creamery.
I like daily scoop's earl grey (those who are tea lovers will like the flavor), hazelnuts flavor, baileys & coconuts flavor!!
The pancake is as good as gelare!!
I love The Daily Scoop and know the owner. My fave flavours are apple, cempedak, lychee, green tea, CHENDOL...and the list goes on LOL. The rest of my family members have their own faves so we always go home with many different tubs!!
Waffles are nicer at Max Brenner though.
This looks amazing!
Daily Scoop is good but I think Ice3 (aka. IceCube) is just as good! All ic cream there is made in-house.
Love the Choconana flavour - just the right blend of chocolate & banana for me.
Chocolate addicts may prefer the Mocha though.
Another thing I love are the mud pies there - it's a dense block of ice cream with lovely toppings!
Also the alcoholic ice creams there are pretty unique - the booze (I love Bailey's) is served in a test tube held in a wooden stand - not together with the ice cream -so you can decide how much you wanna mix in! YUM!
Waffles ther are good too! I think better than Gelare's
All in all, I give it 2 thumbs up! (I'd give it more thumbs up if I had more hands :)
scoopz (can be found at parkway parade and jurong point) also churns its ice cream by hand. it tastes really good, should try! :)
the daily scoop is my current fav! durian lovers, do try their durian ice cream (seasonal though)! and their choc brownie a mus try!!!
