Lion City Frog Porridge: If Frog tastes like Chicken Why Pay More?

Kung Bao Frog: $8 per frog

Many people say that frogs taste like chicken. If that is so, why pay $8 for a frog when with the same amount of money you can actually buy quite a substantial amount of chicken meat? The Kung Pao sauce in this dish is really very delicious, but I can't help but wonder whether it would taste different if chicken was used in place of frog. I think you can see where I am coming from. I like this dish very much but for $8, I can only get a few tiny morsels of meat. How I wish there was such a thing as a Godzilla Frog with legs the size of a Chicken.

According to carnineviand, this unassuming little stall within a coffeeshop serves Singapore's no. 1 Frog Porridge. I am sure there will be others who will contest his confident proclamation. I must admit that a spoonful of the Kung Bao sauce with the porridge is quite a satisfying mouthful to sooth a late night crave. I find frog meat to be a little sweeter and the texture a little more delicate than chicken. But because there is so little of it, it is a dish one has to partake with the same attitude as Chicken Feet. I give it 4.25, but my two makankakis both give it 4.5/5

Conclusion

Great for a nightcap. Tasty morsels that don't really fill you up, satisfies your craving for umami and gives you a nice warm feeling in the tummy.

Singapore's Numero Uno CLAYPOT KUNG POW FROG LEG PORRIDGE!!

Finally an article!

I'd be on the side of the fence that swears by this stall.

-Their Kung Pow sauce is to die for
-Fresh frogs are sweet and succulent
-Dried chillies and spring onions adds to the fragrance
-Congee is thick and smooth.

However, this is not for those who dont take spicy food, let alone Enjoy spicy food.

I think they use Bullfrogs for this dish which are cultivated in some local farms here.

With a makan partner, I always order the biggest serving, I think consisting of 3 frogs and a medium sized claypot congee. That will set you back for a whooping $20+! Yeah kinda exobidant for congee + 'cheeken' meal. Nonetheless, I'll have no problem finishing it all myself.

Yah due to its popularity, there are several cheaper rip offs that claims affiliations to this genuine stall. None of them are as good as the real thing.

Damn, Im salivating already! I gotta stop reading food blogs late at night!!

you can try the same claypot kung pao frog porridge at geylang lor 3 for an equally satisfying meal but for a cheaper price. i think 5 frogs(pay for 3 and they give 2 free)and a pot of porridge go for $22nett..though i can't remember how much they charge for 3 (pay for 2 and they give you 1 free).

Do they have other branches?
I used to get one from a coffee shop at chong pang (yishun). But I think it's no longer there...

I still remember seeing the live frogs there... looks kinda "cruel" to see the live thing and be eating it minutes later...

But frog legs does taste pretty good, though it might sound a bit "cruel" to some people.

actually i think the eminent frog porridge at lorong 13 is much better than this one! its really my favourite frog porridge store out of the rest at geylang. i've been following them since their days at lorong 19 till now at lorong 13.

i remembered when the eminent frog porridge at lorong 19 (prev branch) was closed one day, i went to this lion city instead, but really i was very disappointed. :( this one has more of the "muddy" smell actually.

you should try the eminent frog porridge one day. :)

The frog leg porridge at the junction of Bradell road flyover is quite good too. Very fat frog legs.

I believed that they have opened another stall in the coffee shop opposite Tampines NPP along Ave 4.
