Creating of my Dream Ice Cream!
Have you ever wondered what a Vanilla Ice Cream with Lemon Sherbet and Crispy Pork Floss tastes like? Well, wonder no more because at Ice Cream Chefs, you can make the Ice Cream of your dreams (or nightmares) come true! And if they don't have the specific ingredients you want, you can BYO (bring your own) at no extra charge. Kinda reminds me of the days when we brought eggs to give to the Roti Prata man to make egg prata!
Ice Cream Chefs is a brand new Ice Cream experience started by 2 guys who could be sitting at a desk with a laptop. It is a concept that is popular in the US. Basically you have a cold stone top upon which you can mix and match any flavour of ice cream and extra ingredients. The home made ice creams come in different base flavours such as vanilla bean, chocolate, green apples, etc and they provide extras like Kinders Bueno, Rice Crisps, Oreo Cookies, Cashew Nuts, Peanut Butter and even frozen sliced fruits like strawberries. Each scoop of ice cream is $3.10 and each extra ingredient is 70 cents. Oooooh, doesn't it sound like something that you could go crazy over?
I went nuts (literally) with my Kinder's Bueno, Peanut Butter, Nutella, Chocolate Fudge and Cashew Nuts on Nutella Ice Cream creation. Phwaaaa Say. Don't play play ah! 4.5/5
Some of the other more popular (and sane) combinations are the Horlicks and Chocolate Ice Cream with Malteses which you get both the sticky and crunchy textures of malt with bits of chunky milk chocolate. Not very pretty to look at but a wild combination of flavors and textures.
Ice Cream Chefs has been opened for 2 weeks, so the guys are still busy experimenting with new flavors and getting their coffee and waffles act together. Some ideas they are toying with are the addition of Kahlua, Rum and Baileys as ingredients to add to the ice creams. Until they do, you are very welcomed to BYO as I mentioned earlier.
At this point, I would say that they still need to work on the creaminess and flavors of some of their ice creams. By itself, there aren't any killer flavors to rave about yet. But hey it is really up to you to create that "die die must try" ice cream which is limited only by your imagination!
Conclusion
The kind of place where ice cream dreams takes flight! So start dreaming!

Same concept as the one found in Australia. It's called "Cold Rock" in Brisbane. I love mixing mars bar or skittles into moi ice cream.. yumm...

FYI.. Cold Rock is open in Singapore. At Holland Village opposite Haagen Daz. I wandered in on Thursday and tried out a combination of boysenbery and some other fruit on yoghurt.

I would say eating the ice cream cooked with durian was even better than eating the durian directly.
I live in Ghim Moh, so East Coast is like a gazillion kms away!

Just dropped by the Ice Cream Chefs today, and there was a short queue at about 5pm... I had Nutella ice cream with Oreos and Cashew Nuts. Man oh man. This is a must must try man!
Seems like they copied the famous concept from the States... Cold Rock's ice cream is rather light for me as I prefer something like Ben and Jerry's, but anyone reading really ought to give it a shot. The flavours jump to life with the mix-ins...
But one thing, though.. gotta make sure that they really mix it in well!
tried Cold Rock at Holland V and yeah it's a bit too light for me as well. And the pricing $1 for additional topping a bit kinda steep isn't it..

ok, i've tried the darring and exotic (that's what the two guys claimed). green apple, belgian choc, lockers, rice krispies and at the end of it, some chocolate sauce! hmmm, exotic, really must try...

There's also a similar cold stone gelateria in the Bukit Timah area. It's called Swirl Gelateria, and it's located in Crown Centre. Well worth a try if East Coast is a bit too far to travel for ice cream.

This store is also similar to the Cream & Fudge in Bangkok which I've blogged about it earlier on. I must try out Ice Cream Chef one of these days and see if it's comparable to Cream & Fudge. ;-)

Brought my sis and bro there for dessert after they lunched at Cafe Oliv (again).
At first I thought we could 'fry' our own ice cream LOL.
Anyway, had large ($4.80, accommodate up to three base flavours, but I chose only two) - Mr. Macademia and Horlicks.
Added 3 mix-ins ($2.10) - Kinder Bueno, Oreo Cookies and FAMOUS AMOS! (OMG famous amos is super nice la with ice cream somemore).
Super sinful. Almost died. =x
As if we wanted to redeem our guilt (hurhur) we took-away a pint of Strawberry and Watermelon-y (SUPER SHIOK I LOVE WATERMELON!!!)

Went with my family last night. Here's what we have experienced:
Dear dear had Durian - straight.
Darling had : Nutella with Milo Nuggets,
Me : Rum & Raisin with Brownie.
Overall: Not as premium as it claims to be. Taste more like Gelato. Melts pretty fast too.
Adventurous and fun especially with kids.
At this moment they cater mainly younger crowds, good for takeaways,especially in the evenings. Only can seat 10 ppl in the parlor itself, otherwise outside can accommodate another 6 or so(if no rain...that is). If business picks up, they have to consider man-power, service and space constrain.
I like the fact though, they are willing to accommodate special ingredients which are not available by them, so I can bring my own Baileys or Rum.... cheesecake or pretzels??

I went there once and packed a tub. Was happily eating it until i saw a strand of black hair possibly one of the guy owners. Totally swear off them. If hygiene isn't there then its forget it for me
I've been a huge fan of this place ever since they opened shop! I love Horlicks, Cappuccino, Milo Peng, Green Tea and Durian flavors! yum yum yum!
Wished they had more seats! Its always so damn packed!
I love Coldstone too. The vice that backed me up during my first boring and lonely time in the US. Hope it will open in Singapore soon. And hope this Ice cream chef is good too. Will review it when I'm on the East side. Thanks for introduction.
