So do you all think it is possible that hawkers actually throw plastic straws and bottles into the oil to make their goreng pisang more crispy? Or is it all another hoax?
At any rate I am sure you will agree with me that eating stuff fried together with PVC is a health hazard!

i m sure there are un-educated, unscupulous hawkers out there who think adding plastic will add an extra "crunch" into the goreng pisang.
after all the 'il-logic' is logical, coating something with a thin layer of plastic might give it a little bit of hardness/ crunch.
Eating fried stuff w/o pvc already hazzard, plus pvc = suicidal....
any recommendations for places with good goreng pisangs?
Actually I've heard of this practice from Malaysian friends who witnessed it first-hand, and the food being fried wasn't goreng pisang, but rather, fried onions used for garnishing and those ikan bilis.
I don't think its a hoax.
Plastic dont melt in boiling oil lah
To be precise, plastic melts but insoluble in oil, though it is made from waste oil.
When they asked me for a quote, the question was:
Is burning PVC harmful our health?
When they published my answer, the context was a little different.
So I don't really know if frying PVC actually releases dioxins. I only know that if you burn PVC, dioxins are release.
I think the point is that dioxins can cause cancers etc etc.
I've actually come across some science articles that says Plastics have only 1% difference in particles as to Magerine, which when melted can be used as oil in frying.
So I'm guessing that maybe this is why? And maybe that 1% of difference in particles enhance the crunciness of the food?
