Bugis Beef Kway Teow - Golden Mile FC: Part 3 of 8

With fellow foodies: ieatMaMa, iwatch_ueat, genetronics.

To me Beef Kway Teow has always been one of those dishes that I ate occasionally but never really craved for.... until now. This one is so good that I cannot stop thinking about it after I got home. For your info, the Grand MakanGuru comes to Golden Mile FC specially to eat at this store. Talk about a great recommendation!

The dry version is pretty darn shiok. That gravy contains enough bovine essence to make you want to Moo.... and that's no Bull. I have never tasted a better gravy. It so savoury, so beefy, so tasty, so Shiokadoodle Doo! (Better than a Scooby snack, no, TWO Scooby snacks!) The meat really soft and tender and they don't overcook it so it is still pink when it is served.

Phwa say! Nothing more to say!

The Beef Balls are the World's Second Best (Best dunno where). They actually still make their own Beef Balls from scratch, and you can taste the results. The ball is springy and is not adulterated with flour, so you get 100% beef protein. Mmmmm... there of lots of air bubbles trapped in each ball, such that its texture is like cross between a Fishball and a Souffle. I could eat a whole bowl of these in front of the TV!

Incidentally, did you know that in order to make the balls springy, the meat is not minced but actually beaten? In the good old days, they used 2 rectangular metal batons to pound the meat. Pounding the meat straightens out the protein strands and causes the springiness. Same method goes into making Fish Balls.

Can't resist taking this picture of an old photo to show you the original stall at Bugis. The stall was started by father of the lady who now runs the stall with her husband just after the war in 1945. This picture was taken probably in the 70's before they cleaned up the Bugis Area. Bugis, as you know was famous for its Ah Kwas (Transvestites) then. Back then, Singapore was also the regional centre for sex change operations, a dubious honour that has since been lost to Bangkok.

Conclusion

If you've never been passionate about Beef Noodles, now is the time to see the light Brother/Sister! Better than the famous, Hock Lam Beef Noodles at Purvis street. 4.5/5

Is Golden Mile FC the one where they sell the army stuff on the top level?

Hi
been enjoying reading your blog. Great lover of beef noodles. Hock Lam is not at Purivs, the real Hock Lam is at China Sq. Family feud thing. Try the one at China Sq, Purvis is a poor imitation.

Cheers

Wah! I must try ze beef noodles @ Golden Mile!

I like ze Hock Lam at China Sq except tt ze uncle is so kiam kana with his kiam chye! *pout*

The Purvis St beef noodles is not too bad but not as tasty as the one at China Sq.

Anyway, both are super kiam kana with Kiam Chye. *exhibiting obvious liking for salty stuff*

There is a unique beef ball noodle @ townshend road. Sound foreign? Its behind New World Centre (Shop N Save) Must try the juicy beef ball and clear soup. If insufficient, walk across and try the Bak Chor Mee, hopefully you like it and ranked it 1st on your Hall of BCM.....

I tried 4/9 of what you've mentioned in Golden Mile FC. Chilli mee, chin chow, Y.T.F was really good but the dry beef kuay teow was really bad (both my friend and myself are beef lovers). Beef had a strong smell and the gravy had no standard at all (friend describes it as 'tastes like my milk vomit'). Although I would say the the kuay teow texture was nice but then again.. Don't think I will visit it again. Hopefully it's a 1 off incident.

Lucky thing was that was our last stop, it would have totally wrecked our makan outing if we had it first.

Hmm, interesting about the dry beef kway teow. Most feedback so far was good. Hope you got the right stall. There are 2 stalls there.

it juz tasted horrible..~the stall at the level 1 tastes so much better..

IMHO, slightly overrated. Same standard as the one at Amoy Street (tagged as the original Cuppage Centre) and Hock Lam Street (whose quality and quantity is fast declining).

For $5, you get a measly slivers of sliced beef and tripe, a few balls and some chopped-up-till-almost-invisible strips of tendon.

For good beef noodles, can Xing Zhou at Toa Payoh Lorong 7.

Am drooling over the Odeon beef noodles, which has disappeared as I'm writing this

lol, about the stall at level 1, my friends and i hate it. The beef got a weird smell, and why do they put small bit of peanut over the noodle? The combination just doesn't match. The noodle got very little variety. Noodle, Beef, peanut that all.
