Ieat 2nd Anniversary Charity Makan Session: Beta Testing the ieat SuperBurger MKII
Time flies! The blog is now coming to 2 years old and to celebrate, we are of course having a makan session. Last year, we celebrated our 1st Anniversary at Astons Prime and we managed to raise some money for the Andrew and Grace Home. This year I am trying to do something a little different with a direct impact on the people we are trying bless. I also wanted to do something that can be replicated with other restaurants who might also have a social marketing aspect to their business.
So we are working with Faith Community Baptist Church (FCBC) this year with a group of kids from the Oakley Children Prison Ministry. FCBC run a prison ministry to help people in prison. In their communications with them, they realized that these people are all quite concerned about the well being of their own kids whom they are unable to care for while in prison. Some of these children actually live with their grandparents or aunties/uncles. So "Oakley" was set up in order to provide tuition for these kids as well as to organize activities for them and in a sense, to be an extended family to them.
What we are planning to do is to arrange for the kids to have a 3 course lunch at Aston's new restaurant at The Cathay (Handy Road) and teach them a little bit about dining etiquette, followed by a movie at Cathay. Since the restaurant can only hold 50 people and I know that there are a lot of ieat readers who are keen to contribute to this worthy cause, I have decided to split the session to two. So there will be an earlier session for the kids followed by the main makan session (where you all come in) that will start at 1pm where we will be "Beta testing" the ieat SuperBurger Mk II. Your feedback on the burger will eventually determine what the burger will look like! Aside from that I hope to be able to do an auction to raise money for the kids to buy assessment books, stationeries, etc.
Here are the details:
Venue: Astons Specialities (The Cathay 4th level)
Time: 1pm
Date: 17 August (Sunday)
Tickets: $80 (Suggested donation) Early birds will get a Movie Ticket!
Every ticket will be entitled to either an ieat SuperBurger Mk II or an alternative main course of beef, fish or chicken from the menu.
What you need to do.
Thanks for your generous support and look forward to seeing you all there!

will the burger to full-size or half size? =p
sorry, meant to ask "will the burger be full-size or half size?"
Where got such thing as Half Size SuperBurger one? Try to imagine a midget size Superman! Not very Super leh. Anyway it is quite big so what I suggest is that if you are coming with a partner, order one burger and one steak. That way you can share share.
Oh, this is the beta version ie almost the final product. So what we will be doing is to gather feedback for the final tweaks. If there are no further improvements then it will be the burger they will be serving out on the menu soon.
ai ya... u know my appetite lar!!
by the way, Oakley is under FCBC, no TCS
It'll be nice and heart warming to see the kids enjoy a meal they wouldn't ordinarily have. Hopefully, we can all play a part in helping them and improving their situations : ).
Future foodies in the making. Hahaa. : )
full size !! its the other way round !
moooohahaha...i think khim thinks the ieatSB is not big enough....so she ask for upsize version..
mooohahahah must be bigger than face then enough...
Will always support your inventiveness of giving back to society through the various avenues and i sincerely hope that more successful F&B outlets can extend their generosity like Astons :)
This is rather unrelated to the current post, sorry...but nonetheless a rather important update. In case you haven't already known, Peter at Jago Close in Katong (from the corner coffeeshop which also sells Twee Kee chicken rice) has relocated to Block 18, Bedok South Avenue 1. Yes the same Peter and his dad who fries up a mean char kway teow on "opeh" leaf. My husband who is a true Hokkien boy and all CKT fans out there who like their char kway teow not overly sweet, but very well wok-hei'ed with aromatic garlic, barh you poh, fresh hum and plenty of liao inclu prawn and egg etc. Since the 13th of this month, he has been spreading his char kway teow cheer at the Hong Soon Food Court in Blk 18 Bedok South Ave 1, opposite the market. He tells me that they will be there for 3 months, depending on the response. Right now, business is not so good cos not many people know they have moved to their current location. So old fans as well as newbies please take note of their new location and go support them. Thank you!
this is awesome. the kids will definitely have a great day! :)
i'm just wondering if anyone has been to Pan Pacific's Hai Tian Lou eat before? if yes, what's the price range? most importantly, is the food yummy-licious?! ;p
Hi mcsmiley and ling ling. Your comments would be very useful in our forum! ieatishootipost.proboards50.com/

Cactuskit, that wasn't the beta test! This coming one is the beta test. Beta test means that the product is being finalized just prior to roll out. The one we had was the first prototype

Asked him why he shifted and reason was the rental and guess who extended to his stall at Jago --- carrot cake guy, his neighbour..

Just checking - Roughly how many children will be going?

Thks so much Khim! I know there are many more out there who wanted to buy a ticket but missed it. But no worries, we'll always be looking out for charity events to organise.
Meanwhile, those who bought the tickets, be prepared to be surprised. More to come from Leslie next week. ; )
