Mr Avocado Exotic Juice: Liquid Gold!

With carnineviand, Tag, liverpool, iwatch_ueat and Bashful Hunter

I love Avocado! I love it simply halved with cold lobster meat and thousand island dressing. I first learnt to eat Avocado when I was studying in Sydney. A lot of people have the misconception that Avocado is high in cholesterol. It is not. It may be high in fat (mostly monounsaturated) but it is not high in cholesterol. In fact, there is none at all since cholesterol is found only in animal fats. No vegetable fats contain cholesterol. Being high in monounsaturated fats explains why it is so creamy and yummy!

If you have never tasted Avocado Shake before, you don't know what you are missing. I did not know what I was missing till last week. The first sip put that "Phwaa Say" look on my face that got all my makankakis excited. This is seriously good stuff! The Avocado shake tasted nothing like Avocado. It tasted like liquid white chocolate mixed with chendol! Shiokfully surprised and delightfully delicious! Anyone with a sweet tooth will love this! 4.75/5

Conclusion

Abosolutely delightful. If you like chendol and chocolates you will love this stuff!

do you know what all is in it? (being a lactose intolerant, i'm paranoid)

ieat said...

No you can't take it if you are lactolse intolerant. It contains condensed milk, gula melaka, avocado and I think coconut milk.

avocado juice is the best in indonesia. just got back from a week in jakarta where my mum faithfully downed a glass everyday. if you can get hold of avocado. you can chop them up into little chunks and slightly blend them with evaporated milk and coconut sugar. dont think anyone in singapore sells that.

Have you tried the one here? It sounds like a similar recipe.

2 - 3 doors away, they also serve the same avocado shake. theirs was rated by makansutra as 5 chopsticks.

personally i prefer that stall as well, as exotic juice's avocado drink can be inconsistent.

also, try their durian shake with shot of whisky. mmmmm........

Now I can drink more of this ;-) Sanur has a Avocado dessert that taste similar to this except thicker texture.

Rated as 4.75/5. I must try this out when I am in iKea these days. BTW, I enjoy most of the food in Alexandra Village Hawker Centre.

ieat, thanks for the heads up.

This hawker centre is famous for the avacado drink and the sour sup (??) drink.
Is this the one facing the car park, and next to a Bak Kuh Teh place(this is the one I usually go).

thats why, Mr tay, u have to try the stall 2 stalls away, try their durian milk, potentially something that u can give a 5/5(not considering its consider suicidal in the long run to drink it :P)

The first time I had avocado shake was in Jakarta (Mandarin Oriental Hotel where we stayed as SQ crew) over 10 years ago and I guess I'd echo Min's view that it is probably the best there.

Mummum said...

ieat, the avocado juice is also blended with coconut juice, so then this drink is high in cholesterol level? Cant drink it everyday, right?

ieat said...

Coconut also no cholesterol! Remember only animal fats have cholesterol. Anyway it is not a drink you want to drink everyday since it is high in fat and sugar!

The first time I had avocado milkshake was only a few months ago and I got hooked to its milky creamy texture.

you should try the durian, i think it's better than the avocado.. unless you are not a durian lover ..

ieat said...

We did try the durian. It was very good, BUT you know what it tasted like? Durians! I rather eat durian. The Avocado was something totally different from what I expected.

a homemade recipe: mash the avocado with a fork (dont overdo it) then add fresh milk and honey.

the chunky drink is REALLY tasty and healthier too. (eating it with the chunks allows you to really taste the pure avocado taste)

i've been drinking this every time my avocado tree bears fruit since i was young..

I've been drinking from this stall abt 10 yrs ago. Honestly, it was thicker and more shiok then.

Can homemade: half avocado, 500ml fresh milk, 1 to 2 table spoon of brown sugar or like the Indonesian style just add gula melaka.

yesh... try the stall that is 2 stall left. The bak kut teh on the left is very nice too. My favourite bak kut teh stall at the moment. The chu yao is so soft!

There are 3 stalls selling avocado milkshakes. Stall 17 is my preferred one as its avocado milkshakes leaves a smooth and lingering flavour.

for healthier option, you can always ask the auntie to put less sugar, or no sugar. she is always glad to oblige.

oh... i forgot to mention that the stall, 2 stall away, sells avacado whiskey. It brilliant!

ALL SHOULD TRY IT! also its less sweet compared to this stall u tried

it taste more like coconut milk to me..the coconut milk taste is so overwhelming tat it covers the authentic taste of avocado...(im a avocado lover in fact).... personally..i will jus give it a 3/5 .

Hi Jeniffer

I agree with you. now it taste more like coconut milk. They used to have thicker avocada favour. And tasted better. The quality now not so good. Wonder is the fruit not so nice now or is because the avocada put in the mixture reduced.

James said...

ya, the avocado milkshake, i can't seem to taste that, it's more like a regular milkshake with a bit of coconut favour.

i have a recipe for an excellent avocado pudding here:

3 ripe avocados (brown)
1.5 cups milk
0.5 cup gula melaka

blend & refrigerate until a distinct darker green layer is seen on the top

:)

oh i forgot to add that i didn't find the avocado shake here too fantastic. i've tasted better :P

I have try avocado shake from AV many times, but not from this stall, Mr Avocado (MA), but I really LOVE IT after trying from MA. It is GOOD. Went back the next day but a pity it is closed on a busy Saturday evening.

BTW I would like to highlight a situation that I have encounter on a Friday evening (dinner time). I have ordered a claypot Bah Kut Teh (BKT) from this stall (next to Mr Avocado(MA)). They have ask me to order the drinks from their fruit stall next to them (not MA), but I decline as I want to try the MA's version. And I proceed to order from MA after placing my order for BKT. When I approached the stall for a refill of soup, they DECLINE my request. The reason given by them is that I didn't order drinks from them. "DIDN"T ORDER DRINKS, NO REFILL OF SOUP" quoted the stall owner. Too ridicules! I will boycot the stall in future.

I tried the other stall - Avocado King - MUCH better! Better texture, just tastes better.
