The Polls: Are you an Overweight Foodie?
It would be interesting to see if Foodies are necessarily overweight. Those familiar with this blog would know that I have always advocated responsible makaning, hence our catchphrase: Never waste your calories on yucky food. That means that one has to enjoy the food but at the same time be responsible for one's own health.
The BMI is basically a quick way of getting an indication if one is overweight. It is not perfect, but it is the standard that is currently being used. To work out your BMI, you take your weight in Kg and divided that by your Height in m squared. The formula is (Wt in kg)/[(Height in m)x(Height in m)]

I guess I will just have to grow taller....and you are too tall....
BMI can't be use on sport person like powerlifter, bodybuilding, athletics, etc... lol...
Actually, I don't really trust all these..... because I think they apply mainly to the Westerners..... they should come up with one for the Asians....
Anyways, mine's normal range! :)
But anytime can spill over to being underweight! So I better eat regular,healthier and proper meals from now on! :)
The westerners range for normal BMI is 20-25. The Asian range is 18.5 to 23. MOH adopted the new range recently
My BMI is 27.1.... and looking at a report I got from a recent health screening , I'm considered pre-obese....
The interesting thing is, I'm about 1.77m tall and have a waistline of less than 34in. And I used to be a athlete in my school days.
I'm sure the BMI is a good broad indicator of health, but is there some way to make it bit more tailored? E.g. different BMI for different bone sizes or % of fat content in the body (muscles heavier than fat)?

Yes you are right. The BMI is useful as a tool to study public health. So for the masses it is the best tool we have so far. For the individual, the BMI is but one of few indicators of health. This is where personalized healthcare comes in. As such if in doubt, you should discuss this with your doctor.
Most of the bloggers are either lying or the blog is super successful in encouraging 'not wasting calories in yucky food' anyway I belong to the elite, rare group of BMI 30 and above!...whahahah hopefully my wife doesnt read this...
Speedy, thee's a device called fat analyser and some weighing scales can measure your body fat content. I believe that certain better gyms should have them.
Anyways, I believe in eating well but living well too! Don't compromise on anything esp your health and obesity is something which we should fight against

I would PRESUME that most girls tend to be more conscious of their weight ,(no? thanks to Pop Culture.)
Hence, the current results that show that most readers of Ieat Ishoot are in the healthy BMI range? (Ok, I m drawing inferences here)
For the record, I have a BMI of 27.0 !
i exercise my jaws a lot, so exercise does help. hahaha...
