Warong Sudi Mampir: Satay Legend!
This is one of those satay stalls that don't need to open at night and closes 2 days a week. I think that says it all. At 3pm in the afternoon, almost every table in front of the stall has a plate of satay in front of them and they they BBQ satays non-stop to fulfill the take home orders of hundred sticks or more.
Curious? I certainly was. It is my first time at the stall, and I was keen to give my tastebuds a treat.
I asked the Pak Cik which type of Satay was the "die die must try" one, to which he answered without even a split second of hesitation, "Tripe"
Ooohhh, never tried that either. Sometimes it is good to have had a deprived foodie childhood. I still get to try things for the very first time!
What I like about this satay is the marinade and the good thing about tripe is that it really absorbs the marinade very well, so that you can taste the zesty lemon grass and other spices in the meat. 4.5/5 What I don't like is the fact that they use chicken breast meat for the chicken satay. 3.5/5 It would have been a killer if they used thigh meat and dare I say, some chicken skin. I found the mutton a little on the tough side but still very yummy. 4/5 The satay sauce was also very commendable. Lots of chunky peanuts and very sedap (tasty)!
Conclusion
Really nice marinade and satay sauce. For me it would have been better if they used chicken thigh meat instead of breast, but I feel that the nature of breast meat does allow the flavour of the marinade to come through more than thigh meat.

This is my No.1 satay stall and the triple is excellent. Not many satay stall sell triple. He is also generous with his sauce, just request for more.Always have my satay with the mee rubus few stalls away called "Fandi".
Havent tried Warong's before, though i have heard so much about it.
Tripe satay is really old school satay, and not many stalls serve it anymore.
There used to be a satay stall at the Lagoon FC called Faridah's which sold tripe. it was really really good - melt in your mouth. first tried it 20 over years ago and last tried it before thy renovated. unfortunately, after the renovation Faridah's is no longer around as Faridah herself was getting old and her health was ailing.
Haron's (which you blogged abt) is one of the few remaining good satay stalls from that previous era which still operates at the renovated FC.
i digress..
If you go to Ayer Rajah FC, you'll find lots of stalls selling tripe satay.
To anon above, where exactly is Ayer Rajah FC?
Anyway my fav satay used to be Satay Ria from KL. They had a branch in Far East Plaza and their satay was really huge! Together with their sugar cane juice was a killer combo for me.
Ayer Rajah Food Centre is off West Coast Road at Blk 503 West Coast Drive. Soup Kambing there's good too!
I must go try try this Warong's satay.
Been reading this blog eversince my best galfren (hope she don't mind me saying). Just loved to eat the stay gizzard (but not the chix, nor mutton & beef). My fav whenever I'm in Spore, my first meal will be kentang ball & roti john.
Keep it up! Well done! Lastly, thanks to iwatch_ueat. Cheers for your Boss!
Rare to find satay babat nowadays. Hope this stall continues to sell this delicacy :)
thanks for the recommendation. tried the satay and its yummy. 100 times better den the satay power at al-azhar. luv it to be able to eat satay in afternoon instead of nite which is the case of most stalls only selling it after evenings
