ieatishootipost.sg!

So after much persuasion, I finally bought my own domain name!

Please change your bookmarks so that it points to http://ieatishootipost.sg

In case some of you are wondering why I did not get ieatishootipost.com, it was already taken even 6 months ago.

Alright, enough of that "I told you so...blah blah blah...."

Thanks very much for all your support! Do continue to write in with your feedback and suggestions for the blog. I am looking at how to further improve the layout.

congrats on your domain :) if you also bought some webspace to go with that, maybe you can think about changing to wordpress? i think it's a far more robust blogging system than blogger :)

likewise congrats :)

In the long run you may wanna consider web hosting which I have recommended so that you can have chat, forum, and even register emails all at one site :)

Hey Leslie guess wat?

I just bought my own domain today as well. Great minds think alike I reckon. ;)

But probably my blog is not as popular as yours so I still manage to get my http://www.hisfoodblog.com.

Aiya, if I had a great mind, I would have done this long time ago when ieatishootipost.com was still available! Congrats on your domain as well. Do get it hosted etc etc ad nauseum.

Awesome, your blog has its own home!

This should be hosting on blogger with the dns pointing to ghs google? Not a very wise thing to do leslie, get your own rack and host it, switch to wordpress, it is the lexus of blogging platform while blogger is nissan!

I had left a comment on one of the post but the post was deleted? Anyway my question on that post was

: Were you paid for reviewing products on your blog? Or were you require to pay for the meal when you were invited to review products?

Why i think this is important is because if you are getting favours from companies offering products that you're reviewing (such as free food or whatever else) then you had an obligation to write good more than anything else and as reader, i am keen to know the backdrop of a review.

Hi, why don't you write to my email directly. leslie.tay@gmail.com

I took off the Open ID post because I still had to iron out a few issues before requiring registration to write comments. The Blogger interface does not make it easy for people to sign up for OpenID and a lot of people still don't know what it is.

BTW most of your concerns have already been addressed in the FAQ's

I wanted to comment on this for sometime.

For those who followed food reviews on this blog, one would realised Leslie had never criticised a food he had eaten, except that sometimes he would say its a little dry or a little wet etc. Now I'm a keen follower of your reviews and i've tried almost everything you had recommended on your blog.

I've realised some of the standard of the food that you've recommmended doesnt do justice to the reviews on your blog. I couldnt. From your blog, instead I had made a list of all lousy foods which are no better than what i can find at the coffeeshop down the road from where i stay and if anyone is interested in my list, do leave me comment.

You started out this blog as a hobby and your earlier reviews gave rise to the interest of readers to know where to get good food who probably doesn't have the time to try everything that you could. Your blog definitely still provide very good reviews at times but under your new method of eating at a place which is to accept invitation to do a review, they seem to rise less often and i'm not even sure if or when a review is infact an advertorial.

Based on my observations, the quality of your reviews had been exhibiting a degrading effect after you've decided to attend invited reviews sometime last year. Why is the effect degrading? Simple really - when you accept invitations to meals, you're probably not paying for it. When you decides to review product of someone you know, you're probably oblige to do more good than harm for him. This is natural. Owners of those food products you reviewed are eager to ride on this free publicity. I'm not blaming you for it, because if i basically get social with people who are friendly, it is not presumptuous to say i'll try to do good for them if i can.

You are not lying in the sense something is so lousy and you make a review and say its really good but however it has definitely reduced the precision and sharpness in your current state of reviews of being a mechanism at least in the wider sense of what actually interests you and probably more importantly, is the food you reviewed worth eating. What your blog then will become is a reflection of your social network, maybe even who hawkers would be eager to queue up in the interest of having their food reviewed and published by you.

Which of course is perfectly fine.

I don't believe you ever had any pretensions of being the community meta food blog for ALL readers nor was its main aim ( at least from what i have observed) to be a tool for advertising or praising. From the earliest post i can find on your blog, the aim was to build a thorough database of food reviews and allow readers to know where to get good food.

Would like to digress and say there is nothing contradicting about the 2 aims of NOT building a community meta food blog for readers and at the same time building a thorough database of food reviews.

Now i've gone on a rather meandering path to get to this point. ieatishootipost is now a place where a group of readers(some 8 thousand?) come together to read and probably try the food you had recommended while some are of course participating as casual observers. From a reader, i had grown to become part of that group who is very keen to try the food that you had recommended and that is a natural progression.

So back to the actual point of this comment. ieatishootipost to me is an interesting example of how entity progresses. Not that it is unexpected. Just that it is rather ironic, that some of those food in your reviews, not necessarily those that you get invited to, tend to be lesser of its quality according to the expectation raised while reading it here. Yet the contents of your reviews, which are probably "networking" powered seem to exhibit different attributes and tendencies to what it actually is.

Do you really hate a food when it is really lousy?

hey bohtong..i feel that u should probably put more emphasis that your comments are not targeted at trying to put ieat in a category that he may not be in...like for example.. you mentioned that.

Why is the effect degrading? Simple really -

When you decides to review product of someone you know,
you're probably oblige to do more good than harm for him.

i just feel that its a slight tad bit heavy.. :)

You blog is fantastic the problem is i have noticed that some groups seem to have their personal agenda and they post several blogs about an establishment to discredit it. This is why i recommend you being a more stringent moderator and require everyone to register. This way we won't have people making biased and ridiculous claims. The past few reviews you have posted this week were good however what has happened is that some student groups and some individuals have hijacked this sites and started posting stupid remarks to push their own agenda. Seriously, i don't trust these reviews anymore except for yours which is neutral and non-biased. You should really enforce this blogs to prevent people from posting malicious remarks. Think about it who will wnat to be reviewed by you so that they can get lambasted by bloggers.

it is very clear this blog is under "attack" from a person or group of persons who post cowardly under cloak of anonymity or fake IDs, making stupid and silly remarks.

"green-eyed monster" like some "very discerning people" here?
http://www.makansutra.com/forums/singapore/viewtopic.php?t=13728&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=195

"Personally, a few of us have attended meals organized by ieat where the restaurant owner waived payment (we forced payment in the end) and we've told ieat that we would not want to attend such dinners as it is unethical, dishonorable and distasteful.
We are not sure if this practice is still going on as he's found his own group of like-minded people and no longer participates with us, but I like to believe that ieat's Christian beliefs are genuine.
My only wish is that ieat would give credit where credit is due, or at least make it less obvious he's copying ideas off this forum. "

"the last i heard from a restauranteur, they invited him, they gladly waived it since thye invited him for a dinner for 2. and he said he was looking to try a particular premium item, and the restaurant did it on request for him for the second visit, he gladly assumed it was free ... maybe 4 pax..
dont think he featured the place also "

"But ieat really worked very hard. Saw him in other forums(eg hardwarezone) during the period he was writing in makansutra forum almost everyday."

"talks around the town is saying the practice is still going on and i think participants number increased but perhaps different people get their turn each time but mainly family members.
does christian belief in this? i am not sure because certainly not from those i know.
anyway while he copied the ideas here people are also starting to copy his method here very obviously. "

And thanks for not removing the "challenging" comments on this blog
To think that some have actually attended makan sessions together. This people sound like a bunch of jilted lovers.

Personally I am a massive fan of this blog from day one . Always has been fun to read and insightful as well as fair to the outlet owners.

Have noticed that the last few reviews have been attacked by what looks like a bunch of students with massive chips on their shoulders and purporting to tell us the truth about the food.Malicious rumor mongering seems to be a popular past time with these people.

I personally trust Leslies nutral opinion but and do agree on his reviews. It would be nice to get rid of these non constructive lurkers though intent only on making awful comments.

Mong said that "i just feel that its a slight tad bit heavy.. :)"

My response - my post has been misunderstood. I have reread my post and the fault is mine because i wasn't clear. I shall try to address your comment the best i can.

Firstly, i apologize for not speaking more positively for ieatishootipost. However the issue were, i should had concede what i observe as perhaps a loss of "form" rather than a state of direction. I have never doubt ieatishootipost to recover from this observation.

Second, the post's aim was never to tear the community in pieces nor tarnish the reputation of Leslie or his regulars eaters.

One of the harsh statements in my post in this line : " the quality of your reviews had been exhibiting a degrading effect after you've decided to attend invited reviews sometime last year."

Now, in light of what i wrote iafter this line, the above line reads like I'm saying once Leslie started attending invited reviews, the quality of his reviews on this blog had dropped. In fact, that was not what i meant. The responsbility of the misunderstanding is mine to bear.

The above line should had been made clearer in context with the subsequent lines: "reduced the precision and sharpness in your current state of reviews."

So basically, i am acknowledging that some of his reviews are not as sharp, it is natual since relationships formed to affect what goes into this blog because of the very nature of relationships and how it influences our behaviour and the choices we make when deciding what to write.

:"You are not lying in the sense something is so lousy and you make a review and say its really good"

The line above was also worded wrongly. My intention was not to say that all the reviews on the blog are inaccurate after he attended invited reviews. While some of the quality is not as precise, most of his current reviews is arguable not bad though i think the accuracy may decrease with time depending on other factors.

I apologize to Leslie and any members of this blog for any affront to their reputation and your characters.

ai yah. different people have different taste bud, different standard, different threshold of sweetness, bitter, spicy and whats not. Naturally, some may feel that the food is v good but some may feel that the food is a gone case.

For me, i disagree with some of ieat's rating. Sometimes, I got puzzled when so many food bloggers reviewed on the same stall that i thought was nothing special.

ai yah. enjoy the pictures of the food! if its enticing enough, then go try it

My friends who relocate for 2 years to Shanghai introduced me to your blog. I would like to suggest that you try the food at this Balinese Restaurant - Ubud. 793 Bt Timah Road and let others know how you find the food. There's been quite a number of good reviews about it in Hungrygowhere.
