Beef Kway Teow: Flavour that you can See! Changi Village Hawker Centre Part 4 of 6

With smart, holydrummer and iwatch_ueat

I find it the most satisfying to discover stalls which sell really great food, BUT which still does not have any newspaper cuttings or pictures of Mediacorp Stars on them! Don't let the simple, unadorned frontage of the stall fool you. Within this unassuming cubicle lies a pot of gravy so good that I gurantee you can SEE the FLAVOUR in the picture!

Before we get to that. Let's just talk a bit about the soup version. We found the soup to be sweet and robust and all the meats to be tender and flavoursome. On of the better beef soups around. 4/5

OK, let's get down to the exciting part. The dry version is the one to die for. Seriously, this is the best gravy I have ever seen and tasted! Savoury and full of bovine goodness!

Just LOOK at it! See what I mean by FLAVOUR that you can SEE? The beef strands floating in the gravy is your preview of what is going to happen when you scoop a spoonful of the gravy to put in your mouth. Think of it as Sharksfin soup but with beef instead of crabmeat! 4.5/5

Conclusion

You really call yourself a lover of Beef Kway Teow until you have tried this!

Whenever I eat at this stall my family always order the soup form. I used to complain that this uncle is very stingy with his soup but later I realised that his soup is 'power' (Essence of Beef). The biggest surprise today is to discover that his dry form is even better!.The gravy is full of beef in tiny strips and this made his beef noodle so damn shiok!.It will be better if you like the 'chin-cha-lo'. The lady boss made it herself. She added vinegar, sugar, lime, cut red chilli etc? that make her chin cha lo so good.I thought I know a lot but going makaning with ieat n mankan kakis I am discovering more good things.

Definitely GOOD! Always eat at this stall when I hit CV...dry no horse run...beats even the Beach Road Army Market ones!

Have to agree, yet another great discovery. Actually if you were to ask me - I'd be selfish and rather the stallfront remain as it is. =p

My bad...Just that I hate THE new standardised templates which a lot of hawkers use these days, no? In a bid to attract customers with their pictures (only).

To me, however plain-lookin', ol'-fashioned a stall would look like - as long as the food is good, you bet there'll be a queue. IMHO.

I digress.

The beef noodle at CV is definitely laudable.

As you know, there are many variations of beef noodles in different cuisines. Thai, Viet, Teochew, Hainanese, what have you...

Would like to share my personal favourite - as a (half) Taiwanese, I root for its version of beef noodles. Though in Singapore, there are a few shops that sprung up to claim theirs as Taiwanese-style, they have to try harder by my standards. The best Taiwanese beef noodles can only be found in Taiwan, just as the best Tom-Yam in Thailand.

Until I get to try my favourite beef noodles the next time I return, I'll stick to the 'local' version for now, which is almost just as good - though I'm not particularly crazy over it as compared to the former.

And I won't miss CV's one the next time I'm there too.

Prefer the soup version, because I always preferred soup when it comes to beef noodles. The dry version is derivative. =P

my fave beef noodles stall till now! actually you can request re-fill of your soup if you want~ just bring it to the auntie & she will help to refill happily.. their beefballs is also very special, it's slightly bigger than what you normally eat outside, and it's made of meats & tendons, chewy!
quite surprising you mananged to try this stall, as it's still quite unknown..but thanks for the review!

This has got to be the best kept secret for superb beef kway teow. Tried both the soup and dry version and they are both good but the dry(not exactly because there's a lot of gravy) one is excellent.

Chunky pieces of meat with tendon bits coupled with great chinchalok and chilli sauce. The gravy is so tasty that you just can't have enough of it.

The friendly lady that brought our food told us that we can feel free to get a refill of the soup so that should debunk the myth that they don't do refills.

Excellent food that I wouldn't mind travelling for half an hour to CV for.

Had lunch at this stall yesterday. This time I tried their beef balls. Wow! it has a good bite and bigger and much better than the beef balls I tried elsewhere. Also the Beef balls got a better taste of beef.Aunty told me she outsource the beef balls. Been going to this stall a least once a month.

Sorry to this stall children. I may have used the wrong word 'stingy'. I prefer soup that has more 'punch' than some stalls who served you a big bowl of soup of diluted soup. Usually I dont drink up the soup but this stall you can beg I drank up the last drop!

This is really worth 4.5/5! I've eating there all these years and I didn't know got such good stuff.

My friend was suppose to go celebrate his dad's birthday at a restaurant and he was only going to taste a bit but he end up finishing the whole bowl!

I tried the beef kway teow soup about 1 or 2 months back. Somehow it didn't quite have the oomph for me. I was kind of disappointed though, considering all the rave reports that everybody's been giving here. Maybe it was just one of those not-so-good days. Probably give it another try next time.

However, another good beef kway teow I like is at the East Coast hawker centre.

Its the dry version that scored 4.5/5 The soup one only 4/5

hey i think this stall is related to the one at east coast, no? but honestly, one sip of the soup (i eat the soup one) and it's like heaven. i have found a real replacement to my old favourite at hougang st 21 (qing ji) which sadly has been sold to some other bloke who didn't keep it as good.

The friendly lady who serves the noodles told me that her husband (the one doing the cooking) is the uncle of the east coast hawker centre stall owner

The name of the stall is now Changi Beef Kway Teow. Think they start business at 12.00 noon. Both times when I went, last week as well as today, the man told me they were not ready yet when I wanted to order this delicious looking beef kway teow at around 11.40-11.45 am. Will try it the next time I go there. Staying in the east so no problems.
