Allaudin's Briyani: Briyani Nice

Shown here with fried chicken instead of the usual curry chicken

There were 3 rows of Indian/Malay Muslim stalls, and each row having at least 3 stalls selling Briyani. Yet only this stall had a long queue. Ohhh, I am excited, the Briyani must be as good many people claimed it to be.

But alas, is was not as awesome as I expected.

Unlike the popular version of Briyani, this one was monochrome. Not that one can differentiate different tastes from the different colours. I always thought the different colours of the briyani rice was more for presentation only, but I could be wrong. The rice here was a little overcooked such that some of the grains were mushy and broken. I expect a first class briyani to have beautifully long and slender Basmati rice with each grain individually spiced and firm to the bite. Otherwise the taste of the Briyani was excellent and the Dhalchat and Chicken Curry really complemented the rice well. The Dhalchat was a little on the sweet side which agrees very well with me.

Conclusion

Their fame is undisputed, having been in business for over 40 years. Many who have grown up eating it would fiercely defend it. It was delicious tastewise but I feel the texture could be better. $3.50 4/5

agree, my parents raved about it and brought me to makan, i was quite underwhelmed, it was quite wet, and it was sweet cos i saw the old man dispatch one whole can of evaporated milk into the rice!! i think if they use fresh milk would be nicer...

I had heard about this stall about 2 years back and when I happened to be there and saw the queue, I thought I might as well try it.

All I can say is that it is thoroughly over-rated! It looked ordinary and tasted blah. I have tasted better briyani else. Not worth your time and effect to queue for it.

No chance as the q is always long. Dear Suds can you help recommend some good nasi briyani in Spore

Have you tried Islamic Nasi Briyani? It is in Arab Street. Kinda pricey though. You should try the Beef Briyani. They are famous for it.

tried it today.... was surprised that there was a significant queue at 3pm in the afternoon.... not fantastic.... the chicken is very tender, quite nice i would say....
but for the rice and the curry, there's nothing to rave about, though i'm NOT a briyani pro to really tell any superiority...
the curry with the chicken is commendable, but the curry for the rice (those 'bean curry' dat they give separate for the rice i assume) was poor, so bland....
For briyani at tekka, i would recommend yakader @ 01-324, behind allauddin. always felt damn satisfied after their briyani.....

do support my dad's stall at changi village haha -> http://ieatishootipost.blogspot.com/2006/12/beef-kway-teow-flavour-that-you-can-see.html

Went there this afternoon to check this place out. Must admit the mutton was indeed very tender and melt-in-your-mouth stuff but the rice was pretty average. Nevertheless they're still attracting quite a few customers. Also tried the fried chicken as a side order and that was not too bad. However wish they'd include some achar which was missed.
