House of Briyani: Nice Rice! Briyani Challenge Round 3 of 3

I am not sure if it is fair to enter this Briyani as a challenger because they don't actually sell Indian Briyani. They sell Afghan, Iranian and Turkish Dum Briyani instead. At $5.80 per plate it is definitely one of the more expensive Briyanies around. But as you will see, it is a matter of, "Yi Fen Chian, Yi Fen Huo" (you get what you pay for)

Just look at how beautiful the rice is! Every grain is perfectly steamed, fragrant, aromatic and firm to the bite. They must have used a good grade Basmati. The curry lamb was fantastic. They use the back of the lamb (T-bone I think) to cook the curry, so the meat was very tender. The thing to die for is that Tomato Sambal they provide. It was sweet, not overly spicy and had large pieces of well caramelised onions in it.

Conclusion

House of Briyani is the winner in this round of the Briyani Challenge! 4.5/5

The rice we had was the Afghan version. It was not oily and most similar to what we know as our local Briyani. On the right of the picture above is the Turkish Dum Briyani which is a tad oily and has raisins and nuts in it. I found the Iranian Briyani on the left too much like normal boiled rice.

Hey..

If free, you might wana give the stall at the coffeeshop at St. Micheal's Bus Terminal (at Whampoa Drive area) a try. The briyani is not bad as well. Would say its better than the famous place Zam Zam(opp the Sultan Mosque).. Zam Zam standards seems to be droppin after almost a century in operation.. maybe cos their air-cons are too cold, resultin in their briyanis getting cold when eating half way. ha..

I definitely agree with the assessment. A colleague of mine brought me there once during lunch and I was completely bowled over! Definitely worth the visit.... and best of all, no queue!

This briyani is actually so so lah. Nothing to rave about. Just that they claimed to have many kinds of briyani of different countries. Want the best to die for Singapore Briyani please go to Hamid Briyani at the temporary Geylang Serai market. Now thats what i call original singapore briyani. Not that pricey some more.

Went there today for lunch, the turkish version was lousy. I was served a piece of mutton that was obviously boiled to death to tenderise it before being mixed with the rempah. I couldn't even tell if it was or mutton or beef. The man there claimed theirs is superior to Zam Zam.(After tasting it, I doubted his word). I ordered the soursop drink. Cost me $2 but cannot beat the one at Alexandra Village. Don't waste your time and money there!

I’ve tried Abak, Beriyani House, Wahid Station, Hassan Rabit. Well, I found Wahid Station is good, but I cannot find the stall anymore it somewhere near the junction of Darul Aman mosque not the opposite. I cannot remember. Hasan Rabit at West Coast, the mutton/chicken is nice but I do not like the rice as it is too yellow. As for Temporary Geylang Serai I like Kasturi and Hj Hamid, the chicken and mutton is good but if they upgrade the rice like Indus Valley or Anakale it will be very nice. I want to try Ramiza Beriyani at Changi Village..

Anyone ever tried the briyani at the former Islamic Restaurant, I think it was the best. Todate I have not found another replacement for its fantastic briyani dum....pity it is closed down for good....The Islamic restaurant was the original briyani in town many years ( at least 40 yrs ago)

If you are talking about famous Islamic, I thought they moved further down the road in a newly refurbished place?
