Island Creamery: Exotic Ice Cream and other Delights

With smart, liverpool, iwatch_ueat and tamago

One of our readers insisted that I need to try this ice creamery, so I did.

So what makes this ice creamery so special? Well, it's part of the trend of homemade ice creams that have sprung up all over Singapore in recent years. The ice cream is all made in-house and they offer a range of pretty interesting flavours. The reverso shown above is oreo cookies in chocolate ice cream which was the fave of our Chocolate Queen, iwatch_ueat. My personal favourite was the Kahlua Latte which tastes really good though it could do better with a bit more liquor (But then it will have to be rated RA and not PG). Other exotic flavours include stuff that would make you "Stand up for Singapore", like the Horlicks, Milo, Teh Tarik and Chendol flavours. For those watching their weight, they have lighter flavours like pear sake and other sorbets.

Being homemade ice cream, we are told that they don't use eggs in the cooking process and of course the they use quality ingredients. We found that the texture was nice and creamy but it wasn't overly frothy (too much air) nor was it too rich and it was not overly sweet.

Conclusion

Always great to try something new! Nice place to relax and hang out with friends and enjoy some less common ice cream flavours.

Ice cream afficienados can also wait for Chinese New Year when Island Creamery has specials like the peanut (the one which got me hooked on them when they first opened in the small unit they used to occupy), mandarin orange sorbet and pineapple tart ice cream!!!

Westsiders can also 'boast' of The Daily Scoop at Sunset Way and The Ice Cream Gallery at Valley Point. Must go try yah!

I find myself overcome with emotion every time I try their apple pie flavour. You absolutely have to try it the next time you are there. I find it goes pretty darn well with their espresso, which is decent

Hi, I can't control my excitement and have to voice out whenever I hear or see things related to ice cream. And yes, this time is no exception.

All I want to say is you GOTTA try The Ice Cream Gallery at the Valley Point. I love their Rum & Raisins because they truly don't save on their rum. I have tried this flavour from other homegrown ice cream parlours but they can't beat The Ice Cream Gallery in terms of the rum content. (Scoopz at Jurong Point/Parkway Parade/IMM comes second though, others can't even make it to Number 3 in my own Rum & Raisins Flavour Rank Chart.) Their Brandied Fig is also quite strong. But for a start, you gotta try their Rum & Raisins first. They also have other liquor flavours like Kirsch Cherry (new flavour) and Baileys Irish Cream (coffee based). If you dislike overly sweet ice cream, fret not as theirs is not. I don't like very sweet ice cream too.

By the way, if you like Durian flavour, you should try their D24 Durian flavour because it's their best seller. I have tried it and the flavour is very intense. I'm not a durian-lover though. I believe durian-lovers (my Mum) will like it. Oh, they rotate their flavours about every 3 days so Good Luck if you decide to try their Rum & Raisins someday. But one thing for sure, their Durian is available almost everyday.

Other flavours to rave about are their Banana Choc, Black Sesame, Vanilla and Pistachio. Don't just buy a scoop ($2.80). I always go for 2 rounds of triple scoops ($5.50). Alright, I have rattled enough. I should stop it now.

Hi Kare kevil,

I cannot stop to realised that you are always out there stepping at other ice cream parlour thread regardless is here or in makansutra (Tom's thread) and asking their customer to try Ice Cream Gallery. Are you the owner of Ice cream Gallery. It is not nice and ungentlemenly to do that. I hope that you can stop it. Please respect other Ice cream Parlour. You can comment but do not push other parlour in front of their thread.

I always like Island Creamery on their creativity of ice cream, which each ingredient blend each other very nicely. Keep up the good work!!!!

this is not island creamery related but anyhoo...has anyone tried the ice cream 'stall/kiosk' at clarke quay? near the 'h**ters'. i'm not going to rave about the taste, because it's (meh) so so. but it's entertaining i guess. they dont use scoops to dig the ice cream from the tubs, but it's this flat long stick thing. and you can mix & match flavors into a cup. if you ask for cone, he'd then play around with the ice cream in the cone. stick it and whip it in the air etc. he puts on quite a show. and he speaks malay. hahah.

Hi Ice Cream Lover

First of all, it's great to know another ice cream lover. To answer your question directly, I'm definitely not the owner of The Ice Cream Gallery but apparently, a regular indeed. Well, I won't go ahead with another essay comment just to defend myself as I know I won't stop with just a short paragraph when the topic is about Ice Cream. Anyway, it's not something that I can control either. Haha...

Basically, I simply want to share my experiences with my 3 most favorite homemade ice cream parlors namely, The Ice Cream Gallery, The Daily Scoop and Tom’s Palette. Also, to highlight my personal preference for their significant great flavors unique to each of them. For instance, to give you an idea of what I am trying to say, I prefer the Rum & Raisins from The Ice Cream Gallery to The Daily Scoop and Tom’s Palette. I prefer the Green Tea (& Red Beans) from The Daily Scoop to The Ice Cream Gallery and Tom’s Palette. I prefer the Black Sesame from the Tom’s Palette to The Ice Cream Gallery. Finally, I love their Vanilla(s) because all of the 3’s Vanilla flavor is equally good to me. It’s really all about sharing my ice cream experiences pertaining to a certain ice cream flavor mentioned every now and then. So, have you tried The Ice Cream Gallery?

In order to stay relevant here, I might as well share my experiences with Island Creamery. I have tried their Brandied Cherry, Spumoni, Mango, Banana, Red Bean, Black Sesame, Pineapple Tart, Cookies & Cream and Very Berry. I only enjoyed Brandied Cherry. Pineapple Tart, Cookies & Cream and Very Berry were pleasant. Mango, Banana and Red Bean lost their flavors after a few bites so I can’t give a fair comment. Spumoni was shockingly sweet, mainly due to the many extras (candied cherries, raisins…) present. Their Black Sesame left a bad aftertaste and a rubber-like residue for me. To conclude, I haven’t found my personal THE flavor from Island Creamery yet.

Ooh D24 durian ice cream? Hey can someone enlighten me - there seems to be a "pantang" (superstitious ban) on pregnant women eating durians. Why is that so? I don't see any medical basis for it (certainly not from what can be gleaned online). Does it wreck havoc upon blood pressure or what? TIA!

Ok great even fantastic ice cream (burnt caramel yummy..) but let down by slightly apathetic and offhand staff. My kids love the place especially the drawing table and crayons where they pin up the drawing they have just done. Yet the art Nazi (see Soup Nazi) seems to only leave up the masterpieces.... Try it and see....Oh well...:)

Ice cream gallery's D24 is very good!
other flavors, such as belgium choc (i prefer valrohna choc) lychee, gula malaka, and coffee oreo are very good
although strawberry cheesecake is quite sour to me, bt other flavors are rly very nice, cos i love to eat ice cream!

I think they change flavors everyday, so it's some new stuffs appearin everytime I go there

and i also like to eat rainbow paddlepop ice cream! haha..
