Qi Ji Poh Piah: Prince of Poh Piahs: Sim Lim Food Centre Part 3 of 3
With yummydummies, PK, smart, liverpool, iwatch_ueat and tamago
Oh yes! I think I have found my perfect Poh Piah! I remember eating these few years ago when someone ordered it for a lunch meeting. But at that time I was not blogging yet, so I did not bother to take down details of the Poh Piah. Now I can photo archive it for posterity!
This strength of the Poh Piah lies in the skin.... literally. Although it is super thin, it is amazingly resilient. Even when you Tar Pow it, it doesn't get soggy, but retains its chewy, slightly gummy texture. I derive a lot of pleasure chewing on the skin which is almost like chewing gum (but not quite). The filling is marvellous too. The layer of crunchy stuff remains crunchy while the turnips are still moist and sweet. If you put in XO Lup Cheong, King Prawns and maybe even some freshly peeled Crab Meat, this could be transformed into my vision of a Dream Poh Piah! 4.5/5
Conclusion
So far the best Poh Piah I have eaten! The magic is really in the skin. I will need to try the famous Joo Chiat Poh Piah one of these days in order to see if this one can be topped!

Yes, this is a good poh pia store. Last time they were operating from the drink stall and I thought they had moved away until I saw this update. Thanks !
i agree with you :) this is *the* stall that i take my dad to when he is in town :)
Hey!!! I'm one poh piah lover or rather addict.. I tried Qi Ji Poh Piah b4 too!!! Agree with you that the quality of the PP remains even after I da Pau them home.. damn nice!!! But I prefer the poh piah from Takashimaya Basement 2!!! My fav all time!!!! Do try them!! and ask for MOREEeee Chilli and the crispy thing (Dunno what's tt called).. super duper shiok if u love chilli.. It makes you sweat =)
*Jin*
Qi Ji have got quite a few branches around singapore!! .. and i agree that their poh piah is good!! although i still like that kind where you get to wrap yourself at home .. haha
Qi ji ? Is it that Qi ji nasi lemal stall that sells poh piah too?
Its the stall in the picture. Yes they do sell Nasi Lemak
i'm not certain if this is the same stall as my fave as it has a few branches instead of situated in a food court. the qi ji i'm referring to has a branch at bugis(along the kfc to macdonalds stretch), shaw towers, tiong bahru, marina square and tampines. that's all i remember for now.
if you're going down, do try their milk tea, they have pretty good milk tea but the standards to vary sometimes. the bubble tea lookalike in the fridges are not worth it imo, too bland for my taste, but they do seem like a favourite with their other customers.
I am a super popiah lover. I had tried any popiah that I can find. I had tried this Qi Ji popiah before. To me, this is only above average. 7.5/10
You should try this stall at Whampoa Hawker Centre (Temporary Market) called "Ruby Popiah" Is fresh, crunchy and the skin is thin. I have been eating it for 20 years and still as good as before.
it's a good poh piah considering that they have so many branches, their standard is still there. Sweet and crunchy bits inside. yummy!
I agree its good but i believe it could be better if added some peanuts egg and coriander and a tweeny less sweet.
Better popiah at same price ^.^
Anyway, I was thinking about Popiah with satay sweet sauce to complement the peanuts
or
COok the turnips in laksa soup and make the popiah with added laksa leaves.........
My Wishful thinking....
the qiji chain is family owned. the quality is all about the same as they centralise the prepartion of their popiah ingredients.
i personally like the one at shaw towers, as its the first one, and where one of the family members runs the stall, so you can be assured that the quality at this branch would remain good.
ps: they also cater, and portions are quite generous.
Should go try the popiah at tan tock seng hospital food court, the popiah skin is made from an egg like batter..yummy!
This is the best popiah i ever try. I have try many places but none seem to beat this. But 1 thing to note is that it too expensive. $1.60 per roll for regular and $2 per roll for prawn.
i really like the popiah at bukit timah market. there're 2 stalls and both are good but my personal favourite is the one opposite the satay beehoon stall. YUMMY!
qiji is now charging 1.90 apiece for their popiahs...
not too long ago, it was only 1.50.
inflation is here!!!
honestly, i felt that the qi ji popiah have been overated. i tried it twice and didn't think it was that great. the only thing i liked was probably the skin. and yes, they have increased their price to $1.90 a piece! :(
Had it today. It is still better than a lot of poh piah out there. At CGH the price is still $1.80
ieat, do you know where the stall from sim lim moved to?
there's one qiji at rochor road - but it's not the same as the hock heng popiah at sim lim.
i dont know - maybe it's just me, they said it's the same - but it's not. i like the simlim one better.
thanks
Is the stall still opened??=) thanks!
I was there on 24 May for lunch, intended to order the popiah but found it is no longer there.
