Rojak Geylang Serai: Indian Rojak: Geylang Serai Temp Mkt Supplemental
There has been an outbreak reported at this stall! Please beware.
I had initially decided not to blog this stall as I have too many blogs still waiting to be published. But since Aichiak had requested a review of the stall, I will just include it into this series on Geylang Serai Temp Mkt.
As we Teochews (& Hokkiens) would say, when it comes to Indian Rojak, "Lose-Win" is the sauce. I suspect that most of the Stuff is procured from the factory, but I could be wrong. The items all taste the same as any other Indian Rojak stall to me, but the sauce here is quite commendable. It is a little on the sweet side, but our resident Indian Rojak expert, liverpool commented that it was as good as the one in Waterloo St (I have never been there). Based on that recommendation, I give it a 4/5.
Conclusion
There are people who have recommended this stall and it is one of the few stalls with a queue at around 3pm in the afternoon. So it must be good for some people. As you can sense, I was not all that impressed, but as I said, it was commendable.

You are dead on, it is the Sauce. My family susspect they add pumkin. They are also very generous with the sauce they happily obliged if you request for more. They are always sold out end of the day, thus we can assure fresh food all the time.
Thanks very much for the review. Yes, the test is usually in the sauce!!
One of the better one's I have tried. Must go revisit to try the rest they have on offer (missed out of the eggs, cuttlefish he last time)
Somehow, I still find the waterloo street one tad better. Guess, everyones tastebuds are different, but it is a good alternative to when I dont one to wait until past 11am to buy my indian rojak.
the one opp the tampines polyclinic is nice n spicy.... also the one at haig rd f.c. is also good...
I thought this was just average. Oh well.
It's was good... Especially the sauce...
They are in the news for possible severe food poisoning. shop is closed for investigation.
So far someone has died from the food poisoning already, so everyone better beware, the hygiene in the food preparation is suspect!
Thanks. Have updated the blog to reflect this.
its quite sad to hear news like this actually....do we know what is the actual cause ?
was it really bacteria/viruses ? or did someone accidentally spilled some chemicals etc.....
I think probably bacteria which is introduced by one of the staff who prepared the rojak. Because the rojak is left on the shelf for a long time, the bacteria is allowed to grow and produce toxins.
I think it will be very difficult for this stall to continue business under the same name.
I think other Indian Rojak stalls sure affected.
It's funny that people interviewed said that they thought the sauce smelled funny but ate it anyway. And in reference to a later post on this incident, I don't think this incident would stop me from eating at hawker centres but to exercise more disgression. Food poisoning can happen at any eatery. It happened to Prima Deli in 2007.
Why did you change your review of the stall after the outbreak? That is not good lah...
No, I did not change my review. I simply added the warning on top of the post.
I've always been wary of those rojak stalls where turnover is slow. In this case, it would be prudent to wait till the investigations have been completed.
if food left out in open are unhygienic.then what about chinese ngor hiang? same same like rojak...even yong tau foo and chicken rice stall...
I think it is the india rojak cuttlefish that is the culprit.
The Public can't really blame this indian rojak stall. Some more it's happen in Temporary Market of cos hygience is not high. Guess i will not be able to eat this rojak for a very long time...
these types of stalls always very dirty one lah. Their prata kosong and egg pratas always recycle. I never eat those n if i eat prata, i always ask for prata with onions cos they have to make a new one instead of recyling the old ones. Rojak is the worse, i believe most of them recycle the rojak, curry, sause etc n keep them for days
Two people dead, one woman miscarried, 154 people struck down after eating the stall's Indian rojak with 48 people warded (six patients remain in hospital).... and now a rat infestation!! A serious case of 'ignorance is bliss'. Gross negligence on behalf of all; the stall operator, the Health Ministry and National Environment Agency, and ourselves as customers. How many more stalls in Singapore are operating using unhygenic practices? The majority I would imagine. Condolences to all the families that have lost loved ones and have been effected by the incident. Hopefully the stall owner will be fined and sentenced for his gross negligence; the authorities will make a real effort in stepping up their attempts at making hawker centres more hygenic eating centres; and we as paying customers will act and report all hawker outlets where poor hygeine has been observed.
Let the judge to comment and settle this issue .noone want them to happen.noone want people to die but i think the indian rojak stall owner should be very stress & having insomia every nights ...This is a big news every day now .its been years for this business & just bec" of food poisoing & people die .All the years of their hard effort all gone .Im a business woman for years & i know how hard effort to put into a business & maintain for years .Its a trigger to all hawker center stalls to aware of hygiene as can be seen everywhere now.At times i watched over foodcourt ,the people do not even wash the plates clean & bring out .Even the Vege .So i guess its a big punishment to all stalls to stay alert of their cleaniness now .
